And me neither, obviously should have done some research on the lucid chip...though the only AMD board I know of with the Lucid chip is the Asus Crosshair IV Extreme, and that's got the most annoying NB fan & is overpriced : ) Wait, are there any Intel boards that have the Lucid chip ?
Nice! Though, I like to stay same brand and model: they look sexier if both exactly the same design : D But still it's good to see.
There you have your answer, get a motherboard with a Lucid chip and you can, but with a standard crossfire or SLI (or both) compatiable motherboard...it's a no. Ignore me
EDIT: I've just screwed up this message. Different manufacterers (XFX 5870; Asus 5870 etc) is fine on any CrossFire enabled board - which is what you were asking about originally. "DOH!"
The lucid chip benefits with rare, strange, budget situations where we can use our old card with a new card and the performance increase with Lucid Hydra is restricted alot, and we pay more for the chip. Otherwise get new crossfir'd or SLI'd gear
With ati cards you can crossfire as long as they are both in the same hundred series, for example: an XFX 5830 will crossfire with an Asus 5870, a 5770 with a 5750, but a 5770 will NOT crossfire with a 5830, as they are two different bit rates. I'm not sure about the 6xxx series but if tom has a 6850 and 6870 spare he could test this out for us
BUT the higher end card will clock down to the lower end card's speed
hahaha lmao yes you can use differnt brands as long as its say a (6870 with 6870(crossfire)) or (560 with 560(sli)) not vice versa unless you are feeling (lucid) god i feel soo woozy after playing crysis for 10 hours stright maximum dilated pupils...
