Hello guys and girls I’ve been busy at work for a while and not been able to keep up with what’s hot and what’s not so looking for some advice on parts. I’ve had a quick look around and put list together but just wanting your advice on if they look alright or if I would be better off changing some bits

CPU: - Intel Core i5 4670K (have got £200 to spend on a CPU)

GPU: - Asus Radeon R9 280 Direct CU II top 3 GB (have around £250 to £300 to spend on a card but was thinking about maybe adding a 2nd card at a later date if it’s worth it)

SSD: - Samsung 500 GB 840 EVO Basic

Motherboard: - Asus Maximus Formula socket 1150 (have around the £240 mark to spend on a board)

RAM: - Corsair Dominator Platinum 8 GB 1866 MHz

PSU: - Corsair AX860i digital (around £200 to spend)

Case: - ive had a quick look around on some of the website at cases and don’t really see anything that I think could be nice, so all ideas welcome on the case front (guess I’ll be going with a red and black theme if I go with the above motherboard)

And my current pc specifications are

CPU: - Intel Core i5 2500k (I think that’s the right model number but it is a sandy bridge CPU and is unlocked)

GPU: - Sapphire HD6850 toxic (that gives you an idea as to how long ive not been keeping up for  as this was just meant to be a stop gap until I could get round to buying a better card)

Motherboard: - Gigabyte Z68x-UD5-B3

RAM: - Corsair Dominator 6 GB 1666 MHz

SSD: - 120 GB Kingston Hyper X

I think that pretty much covers the new list and the old parts list should give you some idea of what I have now, so hope that helps.

I will be using this pc for mostly gaming and keeping my old pc for surfing the web and general work related stuff

In all honesty your current setup is fine. Only thing i would change is the ram/gpu/bigger ssd.

If you are set on upgrading then The purposed rig is great. I would opt for these changes( all personal preference):
GPU: Get an aftermarket 290
Motherboard: Get a lower priced board that will do the exact same thing yours does but for far cheaper, something like a MSI GD65 Gaming.
Ram: Should go for something like the 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury kits. Cheaper and its the same thing.. Ram is Ram.
PSU: I would opt for the non "i" version since it is cheaper and you most likely won't end up using the digital features.
Case: This is all very personal to people. I would recommend a Fractal Design R4/Arc Midi R2 or a NZXT H440.

Now i choose the 290 over the 280x because by dropping to a cheaper board and ram you would have enough to get a more powerful GPU which is the most important part of a gaming rig.
