Cosmos S fitting the G1 Assassin

Hey guys,

Just joined this fantastic community after viewing alot of Toms video's on youtube and its led me here

I've searched the entire forums for possibly a solution to my problem that i'm having but i'm hoping that someone is able to fill me

Firstly its been roughly 7 years since i constructed my last Rig and i feel its time to do a complete upgrade of everything with Money not being an issue. However the problem i'm having is the case in which i want to use being the "Coolermaster Cosmos S" but i'm not sure if the recent release of the "Gigabyte G1 Assassin Killer Motherboard" will fit. I've had a look at the both websites for size specifications but they unfortunetly to my eyes use different terminology and i'm not to sure of the size dimensions to know if it will fit. But il give a list of what i'm looking at incase you guys can see any problems, i'm a little rusty and technology and such has changed quite a bit

Case - Coolermaster Cosmos S

Motherboard - Gigabyte G1 Killer Assassin

CPU - Intel i7 990X

CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D14

PSU - Corsair 1200w Modular

Memory - Corsair 6Gb XMS3 2000mhz

GPU - Powercolor Radeon HD 6990

Storage - Revodrive x2 240gb, 2x WD Caviar Black HDD 1Tb

OS - Windows 7 64+ Ultimate

Other - Replacing all Standard 120mm fans with Noctua NF-P12

I know its a huge spiel being my first post, but i have spent over 6 hours trying to find any information on pretty much everything to make sure each part functions well but with the case and motherboard that i've stated earlier, i wasn't able to find anything. Also i apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section, i figured it being a Case/Mb problem it would go here, if not i'm sorry.

But any help would be very much appreciated

It won't fit, the assassin is XL ATX whereas the Cosmos supports up to E ATX.

You'll either need to get the Sniper or a different case.

I'm sure you can sacrifice the extra PCI slot and a few USB headers.
 
Sadly the assassin wont fit in the cosmos due to it being XL-ATX, the cosmos can support E-ATX boards tho but with not many of them its a bit of a waste

If your set on the assassin wait for the xigmatek elysium or go with the Haf X if you cant wait ill the elysium is released.
 
Thanks for the response, i figured that might be a problem and my backup plan was the Sniper to takes it place, just trying to work out all the PCIe slots for GPU's and the SSD card. I'm pretty set on the Case mainly because of the airflow thats achievable with everything i'm wanting to run. From what i understand the Sniper is very much the same as the Assassin just a PCIe space short, i could be wrong.

Edit: Or maybe an Asus Rampage III Extreme Black Edition which i know fits.
 
The R3E black would work nicely aswell, the sniper is slightly cut down assassin, i think there is a side by side spec sheet of all 3 g1 boards kicking around somewhere if you wanna do some Google work.

One thing to to note tho is you will have to remove the side panel fan to fit the d14 in, just remembered that when i looked over your part list again, the plastic shroud/dust filter can stay fitted tho which is nice.

Im taking the mesh out and adding a window in via the mesh's mounting holes in a few weeks when ive saved the money to buy some led strips and some paint to paint the frame/mobo tray/drive bays.
 
Thanks for the advice, however i've already come to realise that the Case cant hold the board which is why i've opted for the "Asus Rampage III Extreme Black Edition", However now having problems with the dimensions of the Noctua NH-D14 hitting the side of the case

I get the same temps with and without the side fan so i wouldnt worry to much, only time i can see it helping much is with sli/crossfire cause it can blow more air between the cards instead of just relying on the cards fans to suck it into the gap.

what helped more than the side fan was moving the top fan that it comes with into the middle of the 3 fan spaces in the roof and having it as an intake, then cool air comes straight in from the roof into the d14, dropped my temps by 5c load and idle as in its default position on extract it was just sucking air from the d-14 halfway through.
 
I have seen on a couple of Cosmos Setups where the top 3 Fans were intakes, blowing air onto pretty much everything and having the bottom middle, back side and front 3 mount fans to Exhaust air. But i'm not quite sure if that would work or not, just trying to figure out a setup. But if i have to sacrifice the side fan for the Noctua then is more then worth it really nothing beats it.
 
More fans isnt allways better, the best setup ive found is below, this is how i have it set up at the moment and it seems to give around the same/slightly better results than packed full with fans depending on the room temp

Pink = fans.

Blue = cool/intake

Red = hot/extraction

Brown = cpu cooler

Green = gpu

Black = psu

PS ignore the blue arrow at the bottom left i messed the color up on that one, it shoulda been red heh.

Only running the fans that come with the case at the moment till i get round to buying some Scythe gentle typhoon 1450's or something similar.

Yea i was looking on Youtube about Postive/Negative pressure when it comes to cooling, i guess its just trying to find a balance

Positive pressure tends to help a few C more and negative tends to to help stopping dust settling as much other than in areas with dead air flow from what ive seen/tested with it over the past few years on my past few cases (Antec 300, an old Alienware case i got off ebay for dirt cheap to practice painting on, Xigmatek asguard, Cosmos S,Lian li PC 80B and some others.) Unless your never going to clean your machine other than when it need a repair/upgrade positive presure is where id try to keep it 9 times in 10.
 
Well it seems that even trying to buy the newest of gear makes very little difference in the big scheme of things as i've just read that the new 2011 socket will be release shortly which makes my main components in the build moot, so to that end i will get a rig together soley for gaming and some graphic work until we see what new technology they will grace us with.

So my new build lol..

The new socket isn't coming until near the end of this year earliest I believe.
 
Yea from the little information i could find about it, its speculated that it will be released at the end of this year most likely to co-inside with the year and socket number, whether or not they care about that. But as i've been out of the Pc scene for quite a while (6-7 years) i've noticed that ALOT has changed and its moving soo fast that even attempting to buy the lastest hardware is somewhat pointless when in 3-6months time it becomes 2nd/3rd/4th teir. However from alot of the reviews within OC3D and Tom's reviews its really opened my eyes to what to look for in something for a rig. No point throwing hundreds of dollars at a rig when you can get the same if not better performance from something half or less the cost.
