nuffink. The Doms sometimes have tighter timing, which you could achieve with the LPX too... But marketing bla bla let's not go there. Technicly there is no difference between the cheapest ram ever or the most expensive. (apart from timing and freq)

Some are genuinely better IC's like G.Skill or TeamGroup's uber fast kits, not exactly worth it for daily ambient usage but what they can achieve is crazy.
I do not think the gains will justify the price difference, except maybe in the aesthetics department but Dominator Platinums aren't as shiny as they used to be .

Just from the standpoint of functionality a noname Ching Chong Lu Fu Ram will do the same thing like the Dom Plat or whatever. As long as you compare similar speeds etc.
Of course there are some specialties like Crucial that sometimes provide software with their ram to check temps or change lighting but there is no real benefit in that and is just a nice gag.
For the normal dom plats it is not worth the extra as it is just cosmetic.
For extreme situations and memory speeds/timings the Dominator Platinums are worth it for things like benching but they will do nothing for normal use like gaming.
I find the Dominators have lost their good looks now. They just seem so common. I really want to get a set of KLevv sticks. By far the best looking ones out there right now.
