So my H100 from 2011 (or 12?) finally died. A constant rattle over the last two months turned very, very quiet. I was wondering why my clock speed dropped to 0.24 Ghz until I noticed the lack of sound. R.I.P. One Hundo. You served me well over the last 7 years.
I'm considering the 240 version of this or any other 240 AIO. Could also go 360mm AIO purely for aesthetics - it fills the space - and I'm wondering how many fans can be controlled using the new CUE software from the H100 Platinum pump.
My motherboard is a Z77 so I don't have many options for fan control. I run an NZXT Grid V2+ which controls the fan speed from there, with the RGB controlled by my case switch (Corsair 460X, 6 x SP120 RGB fans - 3x front, 2x top and 1x rear)
Can I run all 6 fans from the H100 Platinum or would I need to keep the GRID to control the speed? The review says the light control can be daisy chained but didn't mention how many PWM outputs are on the unit. I'd use splitters so 1 goes to 3 fans. Are they even on the unit like my old 100 or do they just run off the mobo PWM headers?
I'm not sure how well the CUE and CAM (NZXT) software play together so one control solution would be preferable. Whether that is NZXT or this one from Corsair.
I'd used Corsair LINK before and that was buggy A.F. I would like to choose between this or the Kraken just so I have a single control solution.
I usually have the fans off at idle until the GPU temps rise to about 60, then they crank up towards max from there. I have the H100 fan curve linked to the CPU temp, all other fans link to GPU. I love the idea of the coolant temperature dictating the fan speed.
I also like the idea of having one ecosystem being pretty much Corsair themed.
My CPU temps were never too hectic under the ol' 100 as the GPU's threw out all the heat so it's more for ease of use and having less control modules and cables is a good thing.
TL;DR - Buy this or keep the GRID+ for fan speed control and look at the NZXT?
