Corsair AX 760w or..

I'm very tempted to get the 760w corsair AX for its platinum efficiency - but the price tag! 7 years warranty is very good though!

Or do I go for something cheaper? I've never had a modular psu but they really do appeal to me! I love a tidy build!!

The AXi series featuring link...is this going to perform the same as the ax series only some weird monitoring system included?

I'm not going to be SLI-ing or Crossfiring so 760w is plenty, I'm just looking at efficiency (save power!) and my room gets very hot with the current rig. Also 7 years warranty really is piece of mind.

Try to talk me out or into it as you see fit. Its for a bitfenix prodigy build I got coming up! Quiet builds are also my kinda thing

Or shall I just go for the HX series. Or as proposed before, a silverstone strider with short cables

AX series is full modulary and semi passive would really recommend it.

The Silverstone Striders are great power supplies and the short cable kit makes them perfect for ITX rigs.

I've built 2 rigs for mates now in Prodigys, one with the short kit, one without.

The one with standard cable lengths makes things so so much more complicated. There isn't enough space in the prodigy the manage it all tidily without the short cables. It's possible to do if you don't mind them trawling around in the front, but it's far easier with the shorter kit.

The AXi power supplies will use Corsair Link and you'll be able to monitor all the stuff with your PSU including draw, output, efficiency and all that stuff. Its really cool and I really want one but they will be pricey. Is it "worth it"? That'll depend on how much you value play pretties like that. If you just want to drop something in, have it run well amd forget about it then might as well just pick up a HX750 for $100 less or so and be done with it. I plan on buying one of the lower powered "i" models when they come out cause I really like the idea of being able to see how much juice my Bulldozer is sucking down.

Yeah, but few things do.
And you pay a huge price for one that is, and that cost is unlikely to be made up in energy bills for a very long time.

Agreed. I haven't done the math but I would be shocked if the difference came out to more than you toss into a Coke machine each month. I don't mind paying $1-2 more a month for power if it saves me $150-200 on a power supply.

Ordered an AX760.

Hoping it to be quiet, pump out less heat and last well over the 7 year warranty. Over 7 years it should save me a bit on the leccy bills especially when I move out to my own shack.

760 is a huge overkill for a prodigy rig tbh, but they are nice psus.

Why not go for the HX as you will save money and not see any real difference. Also the fully modular feature is not really necessary as you will always need 24 pin 8 pin etc.

Then I won't take a Corsair .. the full modular cable management is their biggest adventage in my oppinion. If you want to save money take a BeQuiet, overall they are quieter, but don't look as good as the Corsairs ..

I think Ill try a modular next time around. Ive had this TX750 for a little over 2 years now and Ill probably upgrade it in the near future (I have chronic upgradeitus) and now that Im trying to do some decent cable management a nice modular unit would be nice to have.

why dont you consider the seasonic x660w. fully modular look good and they are brilliant power supplies

My thinking is it should be silent most of operation (less than 20%) but then as I game/stick a beasty card in should be nearing 50% load
