CoolIT ECO C240

Hello there!

I'm building a new system here in the begining of the new year, and I've been looking into some pre-made WC kits, to see if their really worth the money. Now I've set my eyes on the CoolIT ECO C240, now I've already read most of this forums views on premade WC kits, and most of you say that people should get the NH-D14 instead. Now the thing is.. I got one of those in my main rig, and it's really a charm, BUT I wanna try something different. This new rig is gonna be for lans and such so will be moved a lot, thus imo the NH-D14 could become a problem, it's big, it's bulky and weights more than a whale. So my idea was that instead of going with some medicore air cooler, I would try and get a premade kit, and add some decent Noctua fans to it.

So any thoughts on the 240 eco?

Yea tiki, Proper h2o cooling would be proper. But I think i see where this is going as you want to use for LAN party. I wouldn't want all that top heavy weight stressing my expensive CPU or Mobo every time it got transported or bumped by myself or someone getting overactive at the table either.

Nor would I want to worry about a water leak with a full H2O set up either, and for the same reasons as I previously stated. I haven't used one my self but have heard both good and bad things about the corsair H50 and H70. Seems to me the choice would have to be the corsair unit. Its small and self contained/sealed system its also inexpensive...just power it up out side of the case to leak test before you install it.And have a good air flow/circulation in your case

i had an m50 and that managed to leak in a static rig, get a good cooler (nh-d14) but when moving it about in a car etc lie it on its side

There is no excuse, use or reason for one of these stupid crap coolers.

If you don't want a huge cooler on your board get a smaller air cooler that cools just as well as one of these poo water coolers.

Oh as for using the cooler you linked to for Lanparties? Those all in one water cooling units also suffer problems with being moved around. If they are tipped or jogged bubbles develop in the pipes and they will spit and crackle until it levels off. My H50 does this every time I either move my PC or put it onto a different board and chip. And whilst it's doing that (sounds like a coffee machine) it cools like crap.

Let's just say that no water cooling unit is properly portable. As I said I would get a good air cooler (not great if the size and weight worry you) and overclock slightly less. I mean, this is a lan party and something that's supposed to be enjoyed, not a willy waving overclocking fest.

There are many smaller coolers on the market that will perform well enough. Titan Fenrir, Thermaltake Frio, Noctua NH-12 or whatever the model is and so on.

Thanks for the quick reply people, I guess I'll be looking into something else then. I also just checked the local price on one of the coolers I linked, and it's almost 100 punds, where as the NH-D14 is around 60..

Well It's all about braging rights ain't it? Some people want tons of LEDS and shiny plastic parts, I want an awesome ocerclock.

I think the LEDs and shiny plastic parts come down to personalisation tbh. Sure, people do like to show off their rigs but that's usually because they're very proud of them and it's fun

The thing I find confusing there is that you say you want an awesome overclock. You won't get one out of those all in one closed loop coolers. The pumps are simply not big enough to keep the small amount of fluid moving quickly enough to stop it getting warm over time. Even though it's an all in one they can and will still leak. The radiator on that system is a double yes. However, so is the H70 (different shape, mind) but the volume of coolant will be right about the same. And that's the problem with these units. They don't have a reservoir that contains more fluid than just the volume of the rad and hoses.

It's entirely down to you really.

I guess there is a reason most people mod these things if they get 'em..

As for awesome overclock, I'm simply fishing in new waters(Pun intended), I've never used water cooling or any premade kits. Certain reviewers praised the h50 to the skyes, and some did almost hate it. So I don't that much of an understanding about how these things work really.

I own a H50. It is crap. Infact it's fair to say it's beyond crap. It all starts off rather well. You fire up your machine and you see these really wicked temps. You think it works really well and then it happens. After about 45 mins the temps begin to soar. Your idle temps shoot up 5c min and if you run anything to warm the CPU (a game, an app ETC) the temps have trouble coming back down.

The reason is rather simple. As the coolant heats up there is simply not enough of it to cool it down before it passes over the CPU again. Then it gets warmed again, then it passes over the CPU again. So then you add another fan to it and the noise doubles. And it gets marginally better (2c off). However then you realise that you have a dead spot in the center of one of the fans so you add two shrouds. Then you look at your reciepts and realise you have now done close to £100 on a cooler that gets its ass handed to it by a £30 air cooler.

And as time goes on you realise it doesn't really look all that cool and you feel like a bit of a moron (see - me).

I had a chat about this with a mate of mine on MSN earlier. We both agreed that with these coolers sooner or later you are going to have to admit you are wrong. Whether you do it publically or just in private you will do it. Me? I don't care admitting when I am wrong. I really have no problem with that. However, the general rule on OC3D is to be completely unbiased when offering advice.

Let's move onto the H70. Again at that price level you can have a NH-D14. Again the H70 will lose. Again the coolant will heat up and your results will become skewed. You can fool the benchmark temps (posting them right after you switch it on) and you can fool people, but you can't fool yourself.

Modding an eco is a completely false economy as out of the box they are over priced garbage mate. I'm not being horrible but when you ask for advice or what people think and they are honest they are not trying to cause you crap. They are simply trying to offer you the right advice.

And, from what I can see at least two of the people who have told you these things are poo have both owned them. Mine? is cooling a media PC with two fans on it. I hate it BUT I'm not Ahole enough to stick it in the FS&W section here and try and palm it off onto some one else. Lesson learned, listen to what is being said to you. I did ask whether they were any good (not on here, I've had mine ages). People told me they are a toy and don't resemble a true water cooling set up in any way. I chose not to listen, lesson learned I guess.

At a Lanparty I would not take off the side off of my rig (padlock FTW) nor display what is in there. It just gives some one an excuse to steal it. If you want to build a good looking rig then by all means show it off. We love that here. However I wouldn't do it at a place where people will be able to get to it.

Without being predjudice the only places you will see raving about the H70 will in the USA. I have never seen an honest to god UK reviewer say one good thing about a H70. And that Eco thing is the closest thing to it.

+1 to that owned one was poo replaced it on a q6600 with a TRUE 120 extreme that smoked it easily with a single fan on the true

then to cap things off it started it LEAK there is a major design flaw on these on the barbs at the rad they are just too weak cause the tubing is so thin and its kinked to make it rigid

Hassle free mate. Which of course is what we need from a computer. Last thing you need is problems at a lan party.

Personally I don't think size and weight is the issue tbh. It's obviously been designed to be safe. The cooler itself isn't that heavy but I admit the fans are. They're pretty thick and the motors are quite large.

The only reason I worry is 'cos I've moved my main rig before and the cpu had jumped out of the socket, of course it was ruined, it had snapped a couple of the pins.

Well the Noctuas are bolt down. So I really can't see how they would snap off. They're also sprung to allow for movement.
