Cooling advice.

ok..since playing MOHW on high noticed the top of the old case getting a bit warm. So wondering how i should approach extra cooling. currently one fan at back, 2 on side and one bottom front.

CPU is i3 2120 with standard supplied cooling and i also have 4 x 5.25" free at front.

Am on a tight budget so no expensive stuff please.

Wondering what my best course of action is.

it'd be a lil more helpful with s'more info...

case
GPU
PSU

what kinda temps do you have...
kinda like to give you good information without a lot of back-and-forth on
what can be achived to what you have now..

If I were you I would invest in some corsair AF series fans. Also if you have the money get a new case as it seems to have bad layout. Other than that if your CPU temps I recommend a noctua heat sink or even the h100i. If GPU temps are bad in game get MSI afterburner and set the fan graphs to go up as the temps go up.

I would shift your side fans to the front, and get a better cpu heatsink. Noctua is the best but if your after budget i would go for the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo about £16

in the future please refrain from answering a question with a link. If you want us to take the time to help you then please take the time to properly type out the answer. I dont know about others here but i wont click on links in posts alot of times. Plus alot of folks here use their phone to check on forums and a link just makes it a tad more difficult.

I'll await the outcome of your temp checks before answering further

if you have your rig in the desk like on the picture the airflow is very limited...you could do with a new cpu heatsink... and put some fans in the front of your case

I would look at a new case and a CPU cooler.
Your case in that build only has once exhaust fan plus the PSU fan but that would probably equal about half a fan.
Many cases out there with much better cooling you have a hot PSU sucking in hot air from a hot CPU with stock cooler. All would make the top of the case hot.
If you are on a budget I would go for a H80 or at least H60 then it would push the hot air right out the back of the case with out the PSU sucking it in much.
But for like £30 you can get a antec 300 or some thing with 2x exhaust fans plus 3 intake and bottom mount PSU

That was my budget upgrade on my 3rd PC that I don't use really with a i7 870 kept cool by a cheap Tt cooler that was won at a LAN Party.

The top is likely to get warm to the touch during gaming as it is in contact with the PSU, surely?

Thanks for all the advice. PSU at top is probably main cause as suggested. HW monitor shows all temps not going much above 60 degress when playing in high graphic settings which is well inside tolerances. am going with the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo for the CPU and going to put Lian 5.25" Bay Cooling Tray in the front as it has good reviews and only £27.

Will upgrade all the fans to better ones in time but this should do the job and give me some good airflow and cooling for the moment.

long term you would be better off having a better designed case, one with top mountable fans to let heat escape easier. that bay fan thing will add noise, and at the same cost as a better designed case seems a bonkers waste of money. without more airflow you will always run warm. no one can force you to do the best thing. but it seems crazy to ask for advice and not pay attention to it.
