Coolant...

It may seem like a bit of a noob question but is there any difference in performance with different brands of premixed coolant? If so, what's a decent brand to go with? I'm currently using XSPC clear coolant and was thinking about using a different brand as it's due a change.

Never heard of any significant difference in terms of temperature performance, so I'd concentrate more on not getting something that will stain or lose colour (if coloured coolant), or cause plasticising with tubes etc.

Do you want clear of coloured?

I've used Mayhems X1 and EK premixes and been very pleased. I see Feser One recommended often too.

Just note that red coolant tends to be more likely to gunk up.

never heard that one before...

Gunk is usually because you haven't de-alginated your coolant properly, it's very rarely IF EVER caused by colour/dye it's just that whatever gunk is has been dyed that colour.

As for premixes, it's a bit hit and miss and I find some perform better in different temperature bands. but any glycol based premix (as most of them are) are pretty much the same. The pastel stuff is made from some proper nasty shit, but it's efficient at cooling that can't be denied, it's just a shame it loses it's colour and effectively falls apart.

I've always been a huge fan of Feser One, their premix has stood in a rig for 4 years and never had a single issue, that was a purple premix and it hadn't faded at all either, I had a fresh bottle delivered when it came to taking it apart for someone else and to my astonishment, the colour hadn't faded at all..

It's all a case of once you find one you like, stick with it :)
