Hi,Guy's and Gal's...i'm having a new build and bought a Gigabyte GA Z77X-D3H Motherboard alongside an i7 2700k Cpu from Ebay for around £380 mark. Got the Noctua NH D14 and decided to get 8GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM...Trouble is, in the motherboard manual it state's that to use DDR3 1600 RAM i have to install a 22nm (Ivybridge) CPU ! I bought the motherboard cpu combo to be able to oc and wanted a good overall system including FAST RAM, when i enquired about some Crucial DDR3 1600Mhz RAM from the same vender and mentioned the point in the manual, the phone went dead, and then he phoned back straight away and ignored the enquiry and took my dosh for the 16GB Crucial Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. The point is dude's, is the motherboard correct about the RAM, and after having purchased the Mobo Combo and RAM, will i be able to utilise the RAM to it's full potential and should the tekky guy have advised me to buy DDR3 1866 ?...there's probablly quite a lot of people out there who have purchased the same Combo and may be as confused as my poor alcohol ridden brain...Please advise and many thank's, hope to hear from you soon, Bri...

P.S. the RAM must be Low Profile as the Cooler is very LARGE ? Thank's again...

Don't worry about it!

The reason why your manual says that is because the memory contollers in modern systems are handled by the cpus to reduce latency and increase performance.

Sandy-B technically supports up to 1333

Ivy technically supports up to 1600

But for years motherboards have sported profiles which allow you to plug in faster, or overclock, ram.

Just check that your bios is set to 1600 and carry on

Yes you could have also used 1866 but the increase in performance is negligable anyway except in benchmarking.
