Concerned about my PPD...

Considering the rigs ive got folding... it's been a week now and unless im mistaken, surely I should be getting more points? have I cocked the config up or something?

i7 920 - unreliable PPD as it's not 24/7

c2d e6600 - 24/7 - Cant remember HFM stats on this

3x poweredge 2900 servers - 24/7 ~2.5k PPD according to HFM per server

3x dual cpu x5500 vm's - 24/7 ~1000PPD according to HFM per server

6x single cpu x5500 vm's - 24/7 ~500PPD according to HFM per server

now for me, the x5500 cpu should far outweigh the performance of the 2900 poweredge cpu's... is there some issue with them being virtual machines?

The only issue would be if the VM doesn't actually have enough cores allocated.

What is the client breakdown? Clients per cores/cpu?

Or a screeny of HFM?

I looked at your stats a few days ago at EOC, it sooks like you are not getting any bonus points for the SMP WU's as the point values are only that of the WU itself.

Have you set up a proper passkey and correctly entered it in each config file? You also must maintain an 80% on time completion ratio to be eligible for the bonus program.

Hmm, i avoided entering a passkey as I didn't think it was a mandatory thing... is that the only way to get the bonus points?

about 6 of my machines are single core and using the standard client, not the smp client.

I have -bigadv enabled on all of my folding machines.

The Passkey is the only things that binds you to the points I could use your name and fold without the passkey you would get the points but just no bonus

right, im on the case...

No worries Kup, it wasnt your explanation that was the problem, I was just having some trouble when configuring them with the client crashing, so I avoided using the passkey to speed it up.

So what about the client setup then? should i be using -bigadv on them or not?

BIGadv flag is best used on a 8core + 3600Mhz/4000Mhz setup

so on a single core its pretty useless !

As SnW said, BigAdv for the i7, AdvMethods for all other SMP. (This is different to the 'Advanced Methods' option during configuration.

so i should put -advmethods for all my other folding machines during config? and -smp for multicore?

Also can anyone shed any light on why the client configuration always crashes? I can barely make it to the end of the config tool, it crashes when i select to change advanced options, when i tell it to ignore the clock, when i set my passkey, everywhere... dont know why

-advmethods -smp for multicore and no flags for single core clients.

Not sure about the crashing config. Maybe delete the config file and see how it works?

yep, tried that, and deleting the associated reg key, if i start config with just anonymous, no team, no passkey etc, it doesnt crash, if i use my username/team/passkey, it crashes after selecting big work units, or advanced options

it's kinda random, although i think ive managed to bypass it by just copying the config file and editing the smp value according to the number of cores on each machine, actually getting somewhere now, i'll report back soon!

RIGHT!

Cooking on gas at last! 12 clients reconfigured... all passkeyed, -smp 4/2 -advmethods on my multicores, no arguments on my single cores.

Will configure my i7 properly when I get home from work tonight, all sorted now, hopefully i'll see some better PPD! Thanks for all the assistance guys, I know im a newb, one day i'll be pro, i promise!!!
