Computer Won't Boot

Ok a few months ago my PC was playin some music whilst i was washing the dishes and suddenly it died. The power was still on but the monitor had switched off.

I tried to turn it off and on again but it won't even boot to bios now. The keyboard won't light up and the monitor doesn't activate.

I've removed most of the components to test the mobo. I noticed that I can't even reset the PSU or hold the Power switch for a short while to switch it off. BUT when i remove the 4 Pin 12v the computer will allow me to use the front panel reset and power switches.

I tested the PSU using a testing device and noticed that the -5v was not lit I assume that this may be a problem. I've tried removing certain components and the motherboard beeps under certain circumstances so I assume it's still doing something.

My aim here is to figure out which component isn't working so I can replace it and get my computer working again.

I narrowed it down to either Mobo or PSU as these are the most likely to fail imo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am literally going insane without a computer.

Thanks, Chris.

Sounds like a PSU issue, BUT my friend had this problem, he replaced his PSU and it was his mobo aswell. Try get another PSU from one of your friends or one you can find anywhere and try it.

Yeh I think that's what I'll have to do. It's moment like these I really hate computers but at the same time I realise my life turns to **** without them. Haha.
