Computer Upgrade

i would have to reformat the hd? ugh

see, i have an hp comp so it has the recovery thing on it

so i would have to completely wipe everythign?

Comps just seem to run so sweet when you format and put a fresh copy of windows.

And a Quick format just takes 20 seconds.

Lol yes but reinstalling everything you had take a wee bit longer :p

LOL, just a bit....:D

But its good practice for Darkorb to learn. Eventually most keep all their good stuff on a seperate drive so all you have to do is reload Windows and ur all set.

I keep all data i care about on a separate partition but programs and such i keep on the same because i don't care enough :D

oh man, dunno if i can pull this off, i have so much stuff to backup.

movies, games, music, thats 100+ gigz..

for games, would i have to re-install? or could i just backup the directory where they are installed.

this is all ontopic, just tryin to see if all this is worth it

could i make a partition to store all this on? then reformat, and then drag it back on?

this hd has 2 paritions on it, normal, and the HP recovery

If the partition were big enough... sure. For CSS you can back up all the data into a 4.7 GB size thing which allows for quick reinstall without need to download but aside from that. Yes.

If it was me I would erase the whole thing and start fresh. But that is one thing you will have to deside for yourself, if its worth it.

Mabye you could just build a compleately new comp.

Ok back to the origional post/question. Its probably not worth it for "YOU" for the little benefit you will get to change the mobo.

The way I look at it is its worth it for "ME" because of the learning you will get. You need to start somewhere/sometime.

OC3D is FULL of people that know a million times more than me and can help you to learn how to get started.

(I am so fricken excited, my new stuff gets here tomorrow)

haha nice man, gl with that

k i gues no upgrade at this time, unless i can do it without reformatting

next time ill get a custom comp, instead of upgrading an HP, but i got a good deal on it :P

There is nothing wrong with a HP or even a Dell, they serve a purpose. And when you are ready you will make ur own comp.

Ok well your HP recovery is absolutely useless almost really. And you dont have to format the whole drive, just erase the Windows folder, program files, and your set. You can still keep your documents you just have to know how to make them work. Just casue your installing a new mobo dosent mean you have to format, but you DO have to reinstall Windows. If your that scared about it, just install new mobo, do a repair instalation on Windows, go into safe mode, take out old HP crap, go back into regular Windows, install new drivers, video drivers ect, your done.
