Ok, I cannot get this computer to work.....im upgrading my friends computer with t he following:

512 meg stick of PC 3200 OCZ

Athlon 64 3000 754 version

ECS K8m800 m2 motherboard

Other system compenents:

512 meg stick of corsair pc 3200 VS

60 gig ATA hardrive

Standard cdrom and floppy

MSI 9800 Pro

Anything intensive at all makes the computer hang, then go to a blank black screen and totaly hang there. Iwas able to fully install windows XP and get avast and a firewall on there....its newly formatted and has never been connected to the net, no chance of a virus. Ive alreayd tried swapping the memory, and after the reset ive looked at the cpu and overall temperatures and they are very low (doenst sound like its overheating). Also, the heatsinks on the mobo, video card, and cpu never get that hot.....also quite odd. I cant isolate it down to one compenent and Im not sure what to do....Suggestions?

I have seen something similar to this and the quick and easy fix was ensuring that in the Bios the performance setting were set to default and not at Optimal.

test it on this and if it is fine try tweaking gently, or confirm the problem by selecting Optimal performance and seeing if it crashes again.

Putting it normal doesnt affect anything - I even downclocked the memory and other components.....

edit: Actualy, it did something somewhat interesting. On fail safe now, isntead of just hanging....it crashes, then restarts......

that probably means that your processor is clocked to high, or theres a problem with the speeds your running it at. try flashing you motherboard bios to a newer one, and update the drivers. and make sure the motherboard supports the speeds your trying to run

(i would look myself but im off to bed)

Definately try flashing the BIOS first and foremost.

By swapping the memory what do you mean? Have you tried it with just a single stick, and if it didn't work correctly swap that stick for the other stick? To me it sounds like a memory conflict of some sort.

I did basicaly exactly what you just said, all stick combos in different banks (1 stick in one bank, then in the other, both sticks, opposite order, etc etc)

Just to confirm, are the three new components that you are using to upgrade your friends computer new?

If so then it is more likely that the M/B's BIOS will have a flash capable of supporting the new chip. But I would still go along with the consensus of this thread and look at the BIOS number as it is statring up, if need be you can find the latest BIOS upgrade dated 29th Dec 05 here

Hope this fixes things for you

good luck
