comparing two monitors

so ive been looking more into monitors. because i dont play FPSs on my computer (i just plain suck with a mouse and keyboard when it comes to that) i see no real need for a 120hz monitor. instead though, ive been looking at IPS monitors. so my question on this is, im debating between two monitors. two that have been debated on these forums multiple times i saw.

im not really asking which is better. they are both amazing monitors from what ive read. the real questions i have though is do things get stretched when you have a 16:10 monitor at 1200p? if thats the case then i dont see a reason to get the first monitor.

i mainly play RTSs and RPGs such as but not limited to:

Dragon Age
Fall Out
Guild Wars 2
Starcraft 2
Command and Conquer
Torchlight
League of Legends.

none of these games are hard on the hardware or anything. none are ground breaking in graphics which is why im considering the 16:9 1080p monitor. that said, who knows what ill get in to in the future. where a 1200p monitor might be better suited. as said im just worried that those games will get stretched and look bad or if ill be playing with a black box around the game (which would defeat the purpose of getting the bigger monitor)

anyone who has had experience with a 16:10 monitor and/or a 1200p monitor and/or either of these two monitors in particular, it would be great to hear from you!

while that is really nice, it wasnt about which was cheaper. i was more curious about the questions. if a 16:10 1200p stretches games and stuff.

No, games run just fine, without being stretched, it could mean slightly lower fps though due to the extra pixels

It will be absolutely fine yeh...

But you'd be paying an extra $100 for a 1'' bigger screen...

If you think that's worth it - it's your choice

well its more then an inch. since its both 24" and 16:10 it ends up being more then just an 1" in real estate.

and if the monitor is still on sale by when im ready to buy it in another couple of months (end of novemeber hopefully) then ill consider it.

although something is happening right now that might make money a non issue with this build and as such the extra money for a monitor wouldnt even matter. but its a small chance this something happens lol

I'd pay $100 to get 1200 over 1080.

would it really be that much of a difference between 1200 and 1080?

and also ive been reading that in many games (eso games i play like SC2) you actually see less on screen in 16:10 then you do with 16:9. so maybe it wont be as worth it.

and the difference is only $50 on the site id buy it from.

The extra height is good if you read a lot or program. For games that output in 1080p, you will see black bars at the top and bottom.

well the only thing that my desktop will really be used for is Games and Browsing, so no programing or anything here (although i am in College for IT and i do find programming very interesting, but i suck at it. so who knows maybe someday ill get into it more but im rambling)

so unless something comes to view that changes my mind, the 23" 16:9 it shall be.
