Clean up viruses

Hi guys,

Recently, I've been having some strange problems with my Hotmail account. I'm not sure if it's a virus problem, but the account keeps e-mailing a lot if not all the ppl in my contacts with strange messages.

Currently I'm using Avira Personal Free edition as my main antivirus program. I also have SuperAntiSpyware free version for extra, but none of them have been able to come out with any solid results of finding any virus on my system. Do you guys have any good suggestions for any good free programs I could use to clean up any remaining or undetected viruses on my system. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Change your password to your email, password stolen and being used, it most likely wasn't coming from your email application.

Someone has hacked your hotmail and are sending out spam emails, nothing to do with your AV, as Youngie suggested change your password.

You probably got a "worm" that spreads to all your contacts on your hotmail. I usually dont use a hotmail account for very long, before i make a new one. Or it could be, like several here say, that someone hacked your account.

To prevent this to happend on your e-mail account or pc, i usually never open mails from friends that doesnt have a named subject or the subject seems odd.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's just strange after all this time....now it happens. I mean I was using this e-mail account since the beginning. It's just sad.

Yup, I've changed my password and will see if it keeps happening. I use MSN Messenger or WIndows Live Messenger now that I'm using Windows 7.

I wish it wasn't true, but it's highly probable. I'll wait and see what happens now.

It could be; this has never happened before so now I feel down. As you mentioned I never open e-mail or attachments unless I know the person and the subject doesn't seem suspicious. I'm going crazy/paranoid right now. I've got Avira, Malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware scanning the system.

Some of my friends have had this on hotmail and FB. Annoying since you spread it to other friends. :/

Exactly. It's not troublesome for me, but it's going to be frustrating for friends that check their e-mails consistently.

I've comfirmed there are no virus/spyware or anything bad in my system. Was looking at the e-mail source and it's probably a hijack. The IP address is totally different from that of mine. Wish it wasn't so difficiult to contact the Hotmail support. I want to report the problem, but can't find the right place.
