clean re install needed?

my friends computer is giving him a lot of trouble lately. its a high end system (2600k, gtx 580, ssd etc). games freeze randomly for no apparent reason. chrome freezes 5 times a day at least. ive tried everything to help him out but no luck so far :/ a clean install is the last resort really but would it be the best option for him at the moment? any help is appreciated

while a corrupted opsys can lead to the issues you laid out. Have you looked into other things like maybe a failing psu or even drivers. post the specs of his rig that may help us help you help him lol

64gb crucial m4 (boot)
120gb kingston 3k (games)
1tb hdd (media etc)

we've tried drivers for everything and nothings helped really

what vcore ya running for that 4.5oc??? has he pushed 1.4 or more for extended periods?? Some have seen a degradation to the cpu after running more than 1.4 vcore for extended periods is why I ask

nope hes on 1.35 volts. sounds like clean install is the best thing?
