So i was looking for a cheap enclosure to house my hitachi desktar 400gb and this was the cheapest and most decent looking i could find as it happens, from play.com too so good service, though the packaging could have been better(it was sent in a box twice the size with just this in,no padding what so ever)

well upon opening the box you are greeted with the enclosure in a clear plastic wrapper/bag surrounded by cardboard inserts which seat it in place pretty snug(thankfully, due to plays mediocre packaging) with the usb and power cables/adapter and some screws and a mini phillips screwdriver to boot underneath the cardboard inserts.

now for the best part.....Pics!

Installation was a breeze and took about 5 minutes(just plug in the cables and slide it in and screw into place, there is no instructions or anything of the sort included which was a little rubbish but then if your buying one of these its pretty straightforward i suppose.

The four screws provided where adequate(2 to hold the drive in place and 2 for the pcb.connector board) but it would of been much nicer if they could have included an extra 2 screws to hold the drive in place but that said its fairly secure with just the 2.

the case seems to be made out of 2-3mm aluminum and theres no active cooling but it doesnt seem to get too toasty really until you start transferring data.

the build quality and finish is fairly good for the price of the product, its a quite nice glossy black finish and the strength is adequate for its use, also the usb port connection doesnt feel as solid as it could be to be honest but it seems ok and the cables included could have been a little longer but should be fine for most people, the transfer speeds are pretty good too.

so all in all if your after a cheap,no frills but not ugly looking sata enclosure you cant really do much better than this i dont think,it does exactly what it says on the tin.

I would give it a 8.5/10 as it does whats its meant to do and quite well, for £12.99 and free delivery from play.com its money well spent.
