Choppy game performance, then "warms up"

Hi all, I play a game where every few minutes, a new map loads (actually just "metadata" (few kB) loads which tells the game which blocks are at which position etc.). As the map loads, I get a choppy performance however after few 10s of seconds it kind of "warms up" and runs smoothly until next track.

This is a problem of a too small memory right? I just want to check so that I don't buy new memory modules just to find out that it didn't help.

Thanks J.M.

If you have the same 512mb thats listed in your profile yes.

Bump it up to 2GB if you can afford to.

Game is Trackmania nations.

I think the system specs are in my profile but anyways..

x1650PRO 512mb

CPU P4 prescott 2.4G (oc 2.74)

system memory DDR 512mb 400mhz (actually some 384mhz I had to lower the multiplier otherwise it would crash)

trackmania nations has this load pause crap i believe no matter what kind of setup you have mate, it does seem to freeze up for a few seconds before the counter starts usually

unless you mean after that in which case.. get more ram

i'm crusin on 4GB now and vista still managed to punch out something like 23% of it lol

glad it gives it back when other things need it though :D

woah...easy!

you've jumped from 512Mb to 4Gb while still on a P4 Prescott????

All you have really done now is shift the bottleneck to the CPU! Not to mention that you are still running DDR. Money could have been better spend upgrading all round rather than going to town on lots of memory.
