Childhood heroes reborn.

I know that Superman gets a lot of flack for being 'overpowered', 'boring', and 'bland', but that's never bothered me. People say that Batman is easier to relate to, that Spiderman is a deeper character, and that Superman is just silly. Who the hell wants relate to a super hero? I want to BE a superhero, damn it!

The original Superman movie was released 17 years before me, and yet one of my earliest childhood memories is watching the movie over and over again, slowly memorising the advert order and learning the lyrics to the DFS promotions of old.

The last remake of Superman was... disappointing. It was too cliché, too underwhelming, and just not awesome enough. At the time I was still gripped by it, as I would have been nearly anything released with the iconic 'S' logo on its chest. Watching the same film years later, after the self-induced hype was toned down a whole lot, I realised that my own bias had made the film into something it was not.

CUE THIS NEW TRAILER.
I'm back to being a 4 year old, I'm back to being exited over the 'S', and I'm back creating a whole lot of hype for myself.

Trailers seldom give the true picture of how a movie shall pan out. They select the highlights, doing their utmost to rope in as many potential viewers as possible. But this seems...different.
Instead of giving you highlights, the trailer instead gives you a glimpse to the overall mood of the movie. The opening scene shows you breathtaking shots of Supe's collapsing home world in a way that's never been done before. It shows that the movie shall be going over scenes that have been shown to us before, but in a new light.
It seems darker, maturer, more refined, and God. Damn. Awesome.

I, for one, shall be doing all I can to see this on its release in the UK. I shall travel to London with whatever friends I can in order to see this in true IMAX beauty.
For me, this is the most anticipated movie of all time.
This needs to be done right, and it needs to be perfect.
And you know what? I think it just might be.

Superman rocks. This looks like it could actually be a good film unlike many other remakes.

I always lusted after the Alienware Superman PC :D

Considering that both my parents are still alive and that I'm neither a billionaire
nor an extraordinary athlete/martial artist/genius, how the heck is Batman
supposed to be more relatable than a bulletproof space alien who can fly?

Neither of them is anything even remotely close to what I could ever be.

that Spiderman is a deeper character

That always bothers me a bit. People somehow mistake dead loved ones as
character development. I'm not an expert on Spiderman by any stretch, but
then again I very much doubt that most of the people making that statement
are either.

They just go "He's lost so many people he cares about, he's just so deep."

Come on, that's not how character development works.

, and that Superman is just silly.

He's not by principle. You can of course make a comic book/movie/game whatever
that makes him look silly, but that can easily be accomplished with any
superhero (Adam West's Batman, anyone?)

Fucking +1!

I have seen it twice by now, and while I don't really think it's a bad film per se,
it just doesn't have any soul to it imho. At least that's the feeling I got from it.
Completely subjective of course.

Same with the latest Die Hard, although that I genuinely consider to be an
actually bad movie, not just due to its lack of heart.

True, and I rather like that. A lot less potential to spoil plot points than by
showing something more specific.

I for one am certainly looking forward to this :)

i never liked batman. he looks so freaking gay and he can't do shit but spend money on his gadgets. i really wish Joker would have killed him, the joker is cool.
i was never really into the whole marvel stuff, but if someone would ask me who my favorite superhero is then i'd probably answer spider man.

For me it will be Son Goku from Dragon Ball series, true kick-ass hero!
Superman is good too, but I was always little bit more into Japanese manga, ect.

I think they have finally done superman justice in this movie, I've seen a lot of previews and it looks pretty dam cool. I hope so at least as the last move just sucked, in a big way. Come on a kryptonite island, my god they were scraping the barrel with that one.

Some good movies on the way, Oblivion, was a waste of time, but Iron man 3, and a new Wolverine, both look promising. Plus Batman is already lined up for a remake in 2015.

Glad to see some fellow Superman fans here on the forum :)

I never mentioned this in the main body of text, but Hans Zimmer's doing the music, Nolan's the producer, Russell Crow is Jor-El and Kevin Kostner is Pa Kent. They'd have to try pretty hard to make this better

Quite a line up. I'm into any super hero movie, it takes me back to a happy place. Before life got complicated. I'm more for DC than Marvel though. It's a little darker, and not so polished. I must admit, I do get excited when Stan lee pops up though.

I remember going to the cinema to watch the original Superman film with Christopher Reeve in, and so its always held a place for me. I can't watch trailers, as they generally spoil the film for me. I only got about 20 seconds into this one, and I knew I wanted to watch the film, then stopped it. But these days I prefer to watch DVD rentals at home...

hue hue hue
people still do that? :D
Haven't rented a movie in a local store in years.
I might have to find an alternative, as a big rental chain in the UK (Blockbuster), closed loads of shops recently. It does seem that the age of physical digital media is almost gone.
