CeX - The joys of the second hand CPU market

Yeah I've been hearing about this on other forums. It seems they have them priced quite low, bringing them back in line with what Intel should really be charging for them.

S'all good man.

Yeah, I have been meaning to mention them for a while. Love consumer-oriented content like this, helping people learn more how to find good deals.

They actually do a good warranty on secondhand components I think its 2 years IIRC

Aye, the warranty is brilliant on CEX, especially when compared to other second hand sellers. Much easier to deal with than on Ebay.

Have had to get a CPU replaced from them before, just walked into my local CeX in belfast and was in and out very quickly.

Had them show me every CPU they had and they had a old Pentium 4, the same one as I use on my keyring. The guy on the till had a good laugh when I showed him that.

A company in China has been making 2011 X79 boards.

That's just an example. There are a few different flavours of it on Ebay, some cheaper some more expensive but with that an a Xeon 2670 you get an awful lot of performance for around £200.

At first I thought the boards were maybe fake or something but no, they actually check out. Few vids on Youtube none of them English sadly.

My advice is find one with VRM cooling as some of them do not have it. Whether or not it would be terribly important on a 2670? not sure. I know the Xeons are binned for low volts and low heat, that is why they only use about 100w max.

Mine is a V2, so Ivy, and never uses more than 1.0v. Ever. Most of the time it idles around 0.7v. That's why Xeons are expensive, because they are binned and picked for low heat and volts.

That is the cheaper version with no VRM cooling. Not bad for £200 all in for board and CPU IMO.

Use the chill feature. Makes a huge difference from what few reviews are out on it. Think it was techpowerup who saw a 10C drop in temps in barely a change in performance

Tempting, But I'm also interested in tom's NDA lift on the 3rd wondering if it's vega or Zen maybe both
