CD Projekt Red are ramping up production for The Witcher 4

I understand the transition to UE5, I just hope they can release a good game. Witcher 3 was perfect. Sad it likely won't be about geralt though.

Not my game as you know but TW3 was considerably better than TW2 which was already incredible which was also much better than the first.

So I'm being optimistic here. They even fixed Cyberpunk!

They definitely have the talent. It's more of a concern to go from an engine then have over 15 years of experience developing to a brand new one. It's going to be rough.

I think it's a mistake. Especially now. Look at how absolutely gorgeous Cyberpunk 2077 is on their engine.

On the other side of things. You cant keep the same engine for 15years. Look at Bethesda. Their engine is a complete joke. Yet they just keep patching a broken foundation.

Totally. Starfield looks no better than Fallout 4. Which is what? 8 years old now?

TW4 is going to be bigger than that. Bigger than anything ever IMO. Like TW3 it will pave the way to what a genre should look like.

It may get off to a rough start like CP but hey, look at that now.

No risk no reward.

Not entirely true. You definitely can keep updating the engine. Sure you'll need a few major overhauls. I mean Witcher is a perfect example.

Really what is boils down to for CDPR is the cost of updating their engine vs costs of transitioning and developing on a new engine and training.

If one is cheaper than they probably went with that. Also consider while afaik CDPR is good at retaining staff, most new developers are familiar with UE technology and is also a factor.

I'm sure they did their homework. Just lots of risk imo. Reward is meaningless ATM.
