Case backplate: what are thin "finger" prongs angling in to the ports used for?

For my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI, I had to use the backplate that came with the mobo. I can't figure out what all those thin little finger prongs angling inward toward the mobo ports are used for.

Are these grounding pins? Are they supposed to be bent soas to touch with pressure up against the metal of the various ports, eg parallel, usb, etc. Each of the holes have these.

Regards, Ron

I just bend mine all the way back as to not interfere with anything... I break em off if I can.

All they do mate is provide a small amount of force in order to ensure a snug fit with mobo and backing plate. Do as Frag suggested and bend them out of the way, or simply snap them off :)

I usually leave them on and only snap the ones off I have to. That way if I even=r have to sell the mobo its in perfect order!! :)

i bend mine out of the way but i always have wondered what they are for..theya re damn annoying though.

I snap em off...many times i've had to take apart a machine i've just built because one of those stupid prongs is stuck inside a usb port or something ghey like that

I think they might be there to ground the case

This is the first system I've built, and until I had to insert the motherboard into the case, I never really looked very closely at the backplates of my previous computers to ever notice.

They aren't designed to break off, and the fact that they angle in so they come in contact with ports suggests they might be there to ground the case. The 3 wire electrical plug provides a ground to the mobo so maybe the fingers pass that on to the case.

well the little piece of metal sticking out the back of the PS/2 port is for grounding....i did think at one point tht the pieces of metal could be used for covering ports u did not use.

If they are for grounding they do a shitty job :p Just break em off or bend em back and never worry about em again :D
