Car insurance woes.

26 minors...that's insane.
Alas, thankyou to you both for your kind words :)
Hope you can successfully challenge your ticket, also.
How about you, Yassar? - what did you fail on first time?

I drove into a no entry zone :(. The sign was slightly covered by a nearby tree, but I should have been more cautious. The examiner slammed the brakes, but he allowed me to continue, even though we both knew I had failed.

On my second attempt I had 11 minors, lol, but I passed. I had a lesson before the test and I realized I was missing my provisional licence and the paper counterpart 5 mins before test time, so I gave the wheel to my instructor, who broke quite a few laws so I could grab the necessary documents as quickly as possible :p. I was still 10 minutes late, but luckily I was still allowed to take the test. I was nervous as f**k, largely due to me being really late, so I was quite surprised I passed.

Good that you did, though :)
I had 9 minors today, also! But I think the examiner was being nice to me, as quite a lot of them seemed major to me. Mounting the kerb as I pulled up onto the left, pulling off in third gear, breaking the speed limit (albeit just) etc.
I think what was made apparent is that I am simply not ready yet. If I had have passed after the driving that I had showed, I would have been rather worried, because it wasn't acceptable.
Hopefully next time i'll have my calm thinking hat on :)

On my first attempt I only had 3 minors. On the second attempt I think I was lucky I got a shot at taking the test :p. By breaking the speed limit, how much exactly are you talking about? I think if it's 10% over the speed limit it is fine, anything more is considered speeding. So 33mph in a 30mph zone is fine. As soon as you hit 34mph, then you are technically speeding. I think that's how examiners measure speeding, although I'm not too certain. That is the case with speed cameras though :p.

On my second attempt I mounted the kerb right at the end when the examiner asked me to "bay park" in the DVLA center car park. I thought I had failed as soon as I felt the back tires hit the kerb, but amazingly it wasn't even recorded as a minor :D.

Yeah, today was my 3rd time trying the 'bay park' manoeuvre - went alright, but turned in too late, so got a minor :(
And yeah, I only went 32mph xD
I'm trying to convince my mother that me getting a car BEFORE I pass my test is the logical thing, as it shall allow me to get more practice in. She, unfortunately, is not seeing my impeccable logic.
The test itself, however, I think went quite well. The 40 minutes seemed to fly by, and it really wasn't too difficult at all, even though I did fail. It gives me reassurance for next time :)
Only issue is, it's another £62 for a test and £40 per lesson (2 hours)
This driving malarkey is more expensive than computers!

I think my examiner was just overly kind on my second attempt :p. 32 mph is fine as far as I know, but try and keep your speed either 1 mph below or over the limit, just to be on the safe side :D

Don't tell anyone, but I used to drive my mums SUV on occasion before I took my tests (with her permission of course :p). What about asking your mum to let you practice using her car, with her permission and presence of course? It would increase your confidence massively and would make the test feel a lot easier on your next attempt.

Unfortunately, she drives an automatic, so would be of little use to me. And, it's a compact MPV, so the different style of vehicle would probably throw me off when i got back to learning in the Fiesta :(
I'd like to drive my cousin's car, as he has a Fiesta also...but he's a little protective, which is understandable.
It does make me wonder though...a lot of girls on my FaceBook that I would never trust with stringing together a simple cohesive sentence have passed first time. It vexes me so.

Unlicky mate best thing to do is to book the next one and look forward to doing it again, most people its simply nerves that catches up to them once you pass the real fun begins starting with the dreaded thing called insurance (pain in my ass) try aviva they give you some good deals, i use them and they are pretty good im 19 1y ncb drive a 1.7 turbo and my insurance is a grand and dropping

Even more than that for speed cameras actually. The speedometer of the car has to be accurate with in 10% as you say, but the speed cameras also have to be accurate to 2mph. Meaning in a thirty limit you can get up to 35 without being caught. This even would extend to like 68mph in a 60 limit which gives me a fair amount of confidence.

keep plugging away mate, i look at it this way, you only have 30mins to prove to this guy you can drive, rather than thinking, this guy judge if i can drive for 30mins.

with regards to car ins, all i can suggest it get and old car, I have a honda civic and that can be had super cheaper and they a bomb proof for reliablity, get 3rd party, fire and theft and just work on building you no claims, if you go on as a name driver, then you don't build any no claims of your own, so when you do have your "proper" own car, you're still gonna be starting again

in your earlier post i saw you were looking at a 2010 plate car, my 1st car was 10yr old E reg Ford escort and my current car ive had for 7 years and is 13yrs old, so im kinda struggling to get the violins out for you lol. get a cheaper run around motor for a few yrs, that will make the insurance cheaper, build you no claims. also if you up you voluntary excess aswell, that will bring you premium down. with young drivers especailly us guys, we just have to bite the bullet.

Yeah, i'll be trying to book the next one today. As much as nerves did play a part, I can admit that I simply was not ready. I made some mistakes that I shouldn't, even if I was stressed out. We'll see how that goes after a few more lessons and a retry!

For now, I think i'll try my best to stay dead on the speed limit! Although there is an accuracy discrepancy for speedometers/speed cameras, to the examiner the visual readout on the speedometer is king, and that's all that matters for now!

Yeah, i'm not going to be giving up :) I'll keep booking until I get a nice little tick in the 'pass' box!
I don't know where you read about a 2010 plate, but I can assure you that that is not the case. I'm looking for car around the 2005-'7 mark - this age isn't too different from your car, when you bought it.
I'm going to try and see whether I can get insured with my cousin's multicar, see if that can get my premiums down
