Hi guys,

i was wondering if you could help me out with a little problem in a new build of mine.

I'm currently trying to install windows 8.1 pro 64-bit onto the ASUS ROG RAIDR Express under UEFI mode, but whenever i get to the "Where do you want to install windows?" screen the drive shows up but i get a message at the bottom saying "Windows can't be installed on this drive" or in full "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

My system specs (if needed)

Mobo: ASUS ROG Maximus VI Formula
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB
GFX Card: MSI Radeon R9 290X
Boot Drive: ASUS RAIDR Express 240GB

Any help is appreciated

Thanks :)

Edit : The drive is being detected in the windows installation i am just not able to install to the drive.

Hi, did you manage to load the driver from the dvd shipped with your Ssd? Usually before installing Windows, I go to advanced, load a driver then I'm able to install.Give it a try;)

Edit : Don't forget to set your drives in AHCI or RAID mode in your Bios and then to install the matching driver from your Raidr DVD when prompted to install Windows, hope this will help you.

Edit 2 : It seems you need to set the Raidr in Raid mode, because of its architecture (two sets of nand).

hi, thanks for the reply

i forgot to mention that i can see the drive in windows setup i just can't install to it

if that makes a difference

No difference at all mate, for every Ssd and much more for the raidr you need to install the raid driver that is with your dvd. In the windows setup, when prompted to choose the disk, click on advanced, then click on load a driver, search in your dvd a folder called drivers etc until you find a folder called raid/windows 7/8x64/ then load it, it will show you the compatible hardware, confirm again, it will install then you'll be able to install windows on the disk

Edit : Actually the Raid Driver is shipped with your Mobo, I told you with the Raidr before but my mistake :p

i will let you know if i'm successful or not :P

Edit : nope just gives me "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, then click OK."

AHCI controller or RAID controller

(Bearing in mind these only show up when i uncheck "Hide drivers that aren't compatible with this computers hardware")

Well...Don't see what else you can do... Just a question, is the switch on your Raidr positioned onto uefi mode?

nah you've been pretty helpful, thanks :P

only problem with installing it in legacy mode is will it be able to boot with uefi mode

No it won't, you really have to keep it UEFI mode.
By the way, did you activate UEFI in your Bios, or did you load your fail safe defaults before doing anything?

Well, should be working...
Does your graphic card support UEFI? If it's not, probably that's why you get these troubles.
Did you try to set your Boot in "Other OS" in the bios, that will only disable Secure Boot but will let you in UEFI anyway

i'd expect it to with it being an R9 290X, but im not even using that card at the moment to rule it out. i'm using integrated graphics from the cpu.

Okey, please try using boot "OtherOS" in Bios, and without any other hard drive plugged in, hopefully you'll be luckier.
OHHH, sorry I'm thinking : Did you create the volume on the Raidr when prompted to install Windows? If not, just try this first xD
