Basically i want to know if i can use my GPU for rendering videos to cut the waiting time down. I have heard that its not possible with an Intel CPU because you need an AMDCPU/GPU Combo would it be possible with my config ?

Specs: 4Gb ram 800Mhz
Intel Q8300
ATI HD 4890
Asus P5KPL-AM

Thanks in advance.

nope not really... if you had more RAM i would suggest trying to RAMDISK but i'm not sure that would help due to your CPU

What do you mean by lossless ?

A raw footage of a "clip" in a container and converting it to 264 in the same container ?

This is converting/transcoding btw.

Rendering would be to create the movie/clip graphically.

I believe you can indeed use your GPU to transcode your formats, it's just gonna take a while. At the moment, however, I think it may be your best bet.

I do have a hand in alot of this sort of thing. It's often the hardest to establish what it is the user it attempting to do, as what they call it sometimes leads to a harder solution than they actually need.

Cuda apps are great for this sort of thing and can take a matter of minutes instead of 10s of minutes to do.

With the AMD, there are apps out there to take advantage of the gpu, iirc Ahead/Nero had something which used AMD stuff aswell as Cuda. Think it had youtube profiles in it too.
