i may consider the upgrade if possible and also run the ws/b bios.will mean that i will have to have ecc mem...but would this be a viable upgrade or should i just go intel???? (gulp...i said it!!)

Honestly, just go Intel.

It will be cheaper and u will get better performance guaranteed.

does anything take into account that you have 8 cores...b/marking etc?

pretty sure 3d studio max 9 does for rendering,so i wont be dissapointed either way!!

i have the L1N64-SLI WS/B bios here to flash.only thing to see is if the mobo will then run with my ram.i read that even if the cpu asks for it,it is possible to run non ecc ram with a chip that requires it.depends on the chip and chipset.as this will be a hybrid setup,it may just work!!

i have just seen a dual intel mobo that i could go 8core...but it has nowhere near as much onboard as this mobo.i like the 12 sata thing hehe!!
