Can AMD finally compete with Intel again?

Exciting to me only in the way that I see it as AMD/ATi doing things `differently`, shall we say.

It did appear odd to me that AMDs newest line of cpus started off with 8/9xxx numbers, with a 9950 about to come. To me, purely from a marketing pov, their range-naming is about to undertake another change. Athlon again maybe ? 10 core Dec-Athlon :p ?

Perhaps the name changing will distance them from their experiemental, maybe, range of AM2+ cpus, stretching partially existing techniques, learning what the limitations are - all in preperation for a new dawn. Doing all this whilst digesting ATi and it`s tech is pretty impressive imo. Their cpus are still fairly strong in the market.

I don`t think I could hand on heart say AMD will-not take the cpu crown again. Think we all know they have the capability.

Well I hope AMD can pull themselves back after the whole C2D war with Intel. I have been a long time fanboy for AMD, and felt so dirty after buying a C2D :(

Next mobo is a 790GX with the New SB when its released. (If it has been please tell me, have been in cornwall all last week.)

I'll believe it when I see it to be honest.

I really like AMD.. But would like them more if they were competative. Hopefully the X2 will hold on to the top preformer crown on the GFX card side of things for a little while. As for CPU's I still believe AMD are quite far behind.

I miss the good old days of socket 939, when AMD was king. It'd be nice to at least see some competition from them, especially since i sold out and went for Core 2. I guess we'll have to wait and see, nice bit of news :)

2 Southbridges? What happend to AMD ditching the southbridge period. Arg. I said it before ill say it again. Quit toying around and make a damn fine chip.
