Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cannot fit in 250GB SSDs anymore

I actually wanted to play the single player campaign but with the download being 246GB and my internet at best being 8Mbps it would take me the better part of a week to download it, I wish the head devs at Activision/Blizzard would give the option of downloading just the singleplayer, I have zero interest in multiplayer.

They have the option for it already... I believe PC has fewer options but can still be useful

That will be fun on the new Xbox series S with it's 500GB ssd + OS add MSFS and that's your drive full

Well for that you still need to first download the 246GB which is my problem, Right now my net is immensely slow, To download 246GB on my connection it will take me just under 1 week if I do nothing else on my rig, If I could download just the single player portion it would take me maybe 2 days.

Why is it so large though? FMVs taking up too much? you would expect they compressed it as much as they could but over 250gb for one game...

Ah, thank you! I forgot that I wanted to uninstall this annoying piece of software anyways!

Now, what to do with all that space? :D

The current state of the game is ridiculous, 30GB+ patches... that's not a patch, that's an entire copy of the game, and that's not even close to the largest patch size.

I kinda like this game, but has anyone seen how much cosmetic DLC there is for this game? Like fair enough it'll be the games primary source of income and if they can get money that way it harms no one, but I can't imagine all of that is light on storage, and I guess everyone needs the downloads incase someone else has the cosmetics. Whether it's guns, stickers, characters, ect, quite a lot of it.

Admittedly the map is far more detailed now with far more interior areas, and it's great to see and keeps things kinda fresh, so I'm sure it's that too, but I feel like the cosmetic side might explain the constant growth, with the new content they have to keep adding for Battle Pass.

Not sure thats a valid excuse that all cosmetic needs to be downloaded. I think its just all poorly compressed.

Destiny is chockablock with cosmetics yet engine wise, optimisation and content, its a fraction of what COD is. And perhaps has much more cosmetics.

This game is a virus. It grows every time I start it. Which is a shame, because it's a decent enough game. But a single player should get to choose how much bloatware he has installed. All I want to do is play the campaign, not download an entire world I won't touch.

Exactly what I've been saying for freaking ages but Activision doesn't listen to anyone other than 12 year old squeaking kids screaming down the mic on team chat who just want more skins.

Well it's rather a problem on Blizzard's side and their launcher, because this functionality has been available on Steam until they switched to the Blizzard App 😅

Well the base game on Steam was still over 100GB as it still included the basic multiplayer, I'd love an option of only downloading the single player, I know it won't happen though.

This is the sort of instance where the tech behind game streaming could be used. there is literally no need for 250gb of data to run a game, especially in an instance where the sandbox is so limited in size. Need to load a whole open world, then maybe you need a lot of local data but again, not all of it.

A complete disregard of texture budgets and really bad compression is probably to blame here. Texture budgets have all but been forgotten since physical media started dying out. When it couldn't fit on a disk to sell it was there problem, now no need for discs so its your problem now and the only solution to it would be for the console makers to set artificial limits, which would hold back there own products so this is going to become normality for AAA games in the near future.

And on that note of it being the primary source of income, is a joke. the game itself is is priced high and was even more extortionate when it released. You have digital deluxe versions and several additional DLC's. I can name quite a few games that have made many more sales and taken huge amounts of revenue without the need to monetise every single aspect of the game

I agree with you, except the fact that this is a twitch shooter, FPS game, meaning you cannot have any interuptions or delays streaming content. It would already be too late.

I meant the bulk of the income regarding the free portion of the game Warzones. Of course this MW download on PC is essentially two different games in one, I believe about half of the storage is Warzones when you split on console. It's a shame the "game splitting" isn't ready on PC yet as that would trim 100GB+ off for free/Warzone players.

Personally not a fan of the MW base game at all, the multiplayer is chaotic and I assume only playable well by children and people jacked on stimulants given it's essentially just a long string of reaction tests. Feels a bit like those "Press button when light flashes" things but with more visual noise. Single player is just typical CoD Meh
