Hey all, not sure if this is in the right place but hey.

I was wondering if you guys could help as I use ALL the Autodesk products but mainly AutoCAD and i'm thinking of getting a graphics tablet. This said i dont know where to start looking or what is concidered a good/respectable brand in this area. Cost isn't the biggest factor but the more it does cost the longer it will take for a system upgrade that is needed. My main reason for getting one is the fact that though im kinda 'new' into the field of CAD i am quickly getting much bigger and much more complexe work loads and im hoping that it will increase my productivity.

Any help or advice would be apriciated

I use AutoCAD LT and have a graphics tablet (for photoshop/gimp etc)

I find using a mouse in autocad easier tho as most of the time I'm just drawing lines and typing in dimensions as I draw so don't find any advantage in a graphics tablet

Probably depends on what you're using CAD for

Tablets seem really cheap atm tho

i use a Wacom Intuous 5M, with a Wacom Art Pen and a Wacom Lens Cursor, along with a Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan (trackball)

but if they are too expensive for you, i suggest a Bamboo tablet kit

what kinda DPI should one look for in a tablet purchase? my mouse mileage is huge

and was looking to try a tablet for ease, but the dpi is sorta critical. for my 1900x1200

display, anything less than 1200dpi makes for .05" errors (eeewww!!) anyone got some

specs and comments on their tabs?

This is the tablet I have:

12.1" Premium Graphic Tablet

29 free programmable Macro Keys

1024 true pressure levels, 2000 Lpi Resolution

Slim design with only 5 mm thickness

Easy to connect by USB

Probably very basic as it was pretty cheap

bought it as a first tablet to try it out and see how much I used it, was thinking of getting a Wacom Intuous if I used it a lot but I only really use it for touching up images and sketching stuff.

I have my tablet running on wacom drivers in linux tho

don't use it in windows.

Not sure if I have it setup right but it's mapped to one of my monitors (1920x1080)

with the Intuous you can calibrate it by a screen's rectangular regions.

simply mouse the TL&BR of the region to be 'traced', then 'pen' a rectangular region on the pad.

simples

NB: i also know this can be done on the Bamboo too

thanks all for these greate idea's. I have been looking at wacom as it seems a good way to go even with the mixed reviews that some people give it but im prepared to do some fiddling to get it to work. im thinking that i may go for the Intuos5 touch M from wacom unless someone wants to steer me away? i have access to touch based monitors as well as much high quality monitors so although you will all be calling me mad i will be switching to win 8 as tho its had critasism ive been using it since dev preview and its almost natural to use metro and with the extra touch for just £50 i think it would be silly not to
