Bulldozers on parade...

Hmmmmm I wonder if I should hold off on AM3+ and wait for an AM4 Crosshair VI Extreme .___. Another thing to think about, I wonder if AM4 will support Pcie 3.0

i know that 2600k is a quad core, PHYSICALLY, but its got hyper-threading, hence the "" around the 8.

correct me if i'm wrong but i didn't think that amd has HT so i thought it fair to compare intels 4(physical)+4(logical) core cpu with amds 8 physical core cpu (no HT)

again i'm not 100% about this, but its what i thought

if u guys are right, and they are cheaper then the intel counterpart i'll be building an AMD based machine later in the year

This image describes it quite well:

The 2600k uses 4 cores for 8 threads with Hyperthreading, but a "Bulldozer core" has two traditional cores packed into it, so an "octa-core" (4 BD Cores) will do 8 physical threads. It remains to be seen how big the gain in throughput will be with this system.

At least that's the way I understand it so far, but I could be wrong.

I'm really hoping that these CPU's are cheaper than the Intel counterpart, so they drive the price down of the 2500 and 2600K's. Hmmm?

I'm an Intel fanboy

I've never owned an AMD chip, and I have never owned an Nvidia GPU. This is about to change though as I really really want a GTX580

As my ole grandma used to say "change isn't always good". What did she know lol?

You should go with AMD if your gonna go for a system around these prices ^___^

I have specific needs, my rig is being built around Flight Simulator X, which has a preference for Intel and Nvidia. I did start off with a budget but I am doing so well on ebay selling all my junk at the moment

.

Sold an old laptop with a broken screen for £65, a pair of hardly warn trainers for £25, a Blackberry mobile for £90, 250 out of date Nicorette Inhalator cartridges for £40, an old cane fishing rod for £90, a load of other fishing stuff for £150, a blood pressure monitor for £35. I'm still looking round for stuff, got an Acer i5 laptop i bought last year for £600, that can go for £300.

I still recon I'm gonna be able to build a kick ass rig for around the £1000 mark. I gave myself 6 months, but for the love of ebay, I recon 3 months wOoOoOp!!

More news this morning (linky), this time about the Turbo Core stuff on these chips:

That's right, it can turn half of the cores off, then boost the remaining ones by up to 1GHz, and all within the TDP of the chip. In theory, with some decent cooling and maybe a tiny bit extra volts, it shouldn't be that hard to get that on all 8 cores. If the 8130P comes stock at 3.8GHz (as expected), that's 4.8 almost straight out of the box!

Also of interest is the fact that AMD will be retiring the Phenom IIx6 chips by the end of the year (linky), so if you want one for an old AM3 backup rig, it's worth a look.
