Bulldozer hype

Yeah I hope this is true. I would not mind upgrading to the Bulldozer then

Also triple channel memory, bonus!

I'll believe this when I see it but until then, sorry but I just don't think it's true.

I am not a Intel fanboy or a AMD one but I can not see AMD beating Intel on performance and certainly not 50%. If they had said 5% i'd believe it but not 50%.

I have read a similar article on Techpowerup which says

"Very little is known about the processor, including at what clock speed the processor was running at, much less what other components were driving the test machine."

http://www.techpowerup.com/tags.php?tag=Bulldozer

On top of that we don't know if the tests are based on multi core or single core and what the tests were. Keep in mind the preview benches for the i5 2400 on Anandtech showed it beating the 980x at most things and definitely above the 950. If it is true credit where credits due and hats off to AMD but the proof is in the pudding and I ain't finished dinner yet.

I would love to see an amd faster than intel. I would happily upgrade to bulldozer if it can outperform intels chips at a decent prize.

Yeah I mean from my standpoint, that article is all hearsay. No sources, graphs, data. I would hope that this will be the case for bulldozer. Good AMD chips are always good news, to AMD and Intel fans alike, to get that price war going.

could be realistic, but say you looked at passmark cpu lookup, the i7-950 gets 6,344 points, and the i7-2600k has 10,168. now the bulldozer claim is approx. 150% of the speed of i7-950, which is 1.5*6344=9516.still a good 600 points below the 2600k, so if you were to take this claim as a rough sort of estimate, its still isnt going to be as fast as sandy bridge, let alone ivy bridge late 2011/early 2012 when they go down to 22nm.to even match sandy bridge, the new bulldozer needs to be 60% faster than an i7-950 roughly.

having said this, the price will probably be better, and amd has made significant progress in catching up to intel.but of course, we have to see how much faster ivy bridge is.

Ivy bridge?? Lol.

All you people buying new Sandy Bridge be prepared to build another new rig every 6-12 months.

Maybe I'm wrong but I see Intel changing sockets every time you turn around only to force you to buy new Mobo's and such so that they can make more money needlessly.

AMD has proved that they can increase performance and introduce new technology still retaining the prior socket increasing the longevity of your already expensive Mobo's and coolers and such stretching your dollar...If all this HYPE about Bulldozer is true. thats a big "IF"

Bulldozer is going to be on a new Socket isn't it? But anyways, I am excited to see what AMD has got coming this time. Hoping to see them two get the price war going

I myself don't upgrade CPU and Mobo a lot, so by the time I replace using that old motherboard wouldn't be a smart choice

One thing to consider, is that AMD has been working on Bulldozer since 2005. 5 years is a long time to be working on a new processor architecture without the general public even seeing any of the benefits from it. I've been an AMD fan for a long time, but if they've built up the hype for this long and cant deliver, its going to be very very bad news for them.

It is supposed to be using the AM3 socket...they're supposedly not creating a new socket for the Bulldozer. This is only rumor mill quoting

AM3+ most likely, to accommodate new features that come with it, that older AM3 motherboards wont support. Speculation at this point though.

I've been following AMD's new cpu's with interest for a while now and from what i understand they will be using a new socket (AM3+) as the new cpu's use about ten more pins than the current ones so while you should be able to put an old chip ie this gen into an AM3+ motherboard you wont be able to put a AM3+ cpu in a crosshair for example

Secondly in regards to speed i remember reading this morning that those results were taken from a 4 core i7 in comparison to an 8 core bulldozer therefore technically speaking its not "faster" in the traditional sense just has double the cores. Also sorry to disappoint you Lappy but its confirmed that it only supports dual channel memory however from what i know disregarding benchmarking and such there is no real world difference between dual and triple channel memory.

Bulldozer will be using the new AM3+ for all the features to be enabled, but it is still backward compatible with AM3, expect things such as the modules won't be read as 2 cores each, but one, so you halve the number of cores and threads you'll run if you're using Bulldozer on an AM3.

In the meantime, I can't wait until I can get my hands on a new Laptop with AMD Fusion.

50% doesn't surprise me at all. Considering the 1100T is about equal to a 950, Adding 2 more cores and making changes to the architecture will bring huge improvements. That being said, Ivy Bridge and the 990x stand to knock Bulldozer back into second place.

990x is just a glorified 970/980x, Ivy Bridge, it may be the greatest thing to ever happen, but the things Bulldozer brings, at least in my opinion have more potential.

Amen brother ....

The MB manufacturers could have added the 2000 chip to the 1156 MB's to give us PCIE 16x2. I feel that maybe there was some inherent problems with the 1156 platform and Intel didn't want everyone having a fit.

It's been a long time since AMD has come up with a CPU to trade punches with Intel. I always look forward to good competition as it keeps the big guys in line and not gouging the end users......

well guess we'll just have to wait and see really hope amd comes out on top this time....hope

If they are going to beat intel I agree its not likly going to be 50%! maybe a typo? and was ment 5%?

Its always used to be a close race between them both, So lets hope that it comes neck and neck again, that way the tech gets pushed further due to them trying to be the best, which is how it should be imo.

Until then Im running AMD and will probly run AMD when they eventually release AM4? I assume AM4 is next after AM3+?
