Bulldozer Estimated PPD

Hey. Im saving up to buy a 24/7 folding rig next year. I have noticed AMD's "Bulldozer" chips are not expensive at all. I was wondering how the 8 core CPU's will perform in F@H. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The more cores the better. I'd try to build the system around a 2600k. If you simply can't do that, next best thing IMO is a high clocked 2500k. I think BD is close right now so waiting a few more weeks might be a good idea.

If it's just for folding then it doesn't have to be fancy, you could get a 2600K, a cheap H67 board use the graphics card on the CPU and you throw in 2gb of cheap ram. Then all you need is a case, something like the Bitfinix Alpha what Tom just reviewed and a good but cheap PSU.

1. Can I overclock on that MSI board?

2. I want it dead silent as PC will be 3 feet from my bed when Im sleeping. Is the stock cooler silent enough?

Just remembered you can't OC the CPU on a H67 so you would need a Z68 board something like

http://www.aria.co.u...el+1155+Z68+(B3)/MSI+Z68MA-G45+Intel+Z68+(REV+B3)+Socket+1155+DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=45974

Or a cheap P67 board, you could always get a second hand one off Ebay

The stock cooler is not qiet especially if it's only 3 feet away but something cheap like that CM cooler Tom reviewed a week or two ago (that I can't remember the name of) would do.

I would wait for BD to come out before you buy anything. If it's a great proc, go for BD...if not, maybe it still forces Intel to bring their pricing down a bit.

You're probably thinking of the CM 212+. It's dirt cheap and pretty good. I didn't check tho Tom's reviews for it (the cooler you're talking about).
