Bulldozer, and its many updates

Right guys, doing some pretty thorough research into specific components of my christmas refresh, and from what I have found, it could be a simple windows scheduler patch that puts a bulldozer chip back on my list, see link from Techreport

Also see link from HardOCP and refer to point 6 where the AMD rep stated:

We are also working with Microsoft on a scheduler update for Windows 7 that will be available soon.

It would seem that if the windows 7 scheduler was optimized for the way the Bulldozer chip addresses its threads, it would be a genuine alternative to Intels i5 chips.

Only reason I'm looking into this was that I fancy something different this time around, and I have missed AMD since my Xp 2400.

Anyone with contacts in AMD care to comment on this, and if a release date for the patch is available, let me know?

BD was in development for what, 5 years? AMD didn't find the scheduler issue with Windows until BD was released? I'm sorry, but I'm calling BS. A "patch" isn't going to fix BD.

We'll probably see improved performance, but nothing that is going to make BD a good alternative to SB.

damn cant +1 mods but yeah BS on that and BTFW its been said already here beofre about the patch just someones wishful dreaming lol

It is known for a while that the Win7 scheduler is not perfect for Bulldozer. But what do you expect? Even with a 15-20% gain it will still suck in terms of power consumption. And 15-20% is what IB will give you while being even better in terms of power consumption. If you don't give a f*** about that, then Bulldozer might be an acceptable alternative, otherwise it is not, with or without scheduler optimisation.

Think AMD comes up with to many excuses. First they make people really angry while marketing by saying the BD will crush the I7 extreme cpu's. They have also said that the BD would have 2billion transistors when they only have 1,2b. Very amateurish if you ask me. I am one of those that hoped that the BD would kick ass, so im not an AMD hater. Just very dissapointed

I have stuck with AMD for a long time now,BD is not fail but neither is it what AMD claimed it to be..

Also the quality of the fabbing leaves a lot to be desired,a lot of variance between chips OC wise, maybe the move to TSMC will cure that tho.

AMD have lost their way, from a management standpoint and a product standpoint, this move into the already over populated mobile market doesnt look good to me,im no expert but i think in a few years AMD may be a memory in the enthusiast market.

Thats why i stuck with a 1090t,next year its over to Intel.

which is a shame.

1090T ?????

you need to change your sig then !!!

what about the gains current intel chips might/should also get from the new scheduler?

they are clinging at straws to try and save face, yea we aint fast but we are better with this....
