Building my first PC; spot anything wrong?

This is my first post here, I haven't checked out the forum guidelines but I'll try to not be too newbish. Oh by the way, hello overclock 3d community, nice to meet you.

I'm building a new computer, my first build ever. I like to think I know a fair share about computers but I've never really sat down and built or assembled my own computer which personally I find a bit embarrassing being a 23 year old male. So I'm going to rid myself of this embarrassing build-virginity and hopefully I can pop my cherry with the help of you guys.

The system components I've got my eyes set on are;

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR3 Vengeance Low profile
3d card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670
Heatsink: Phanteks PH-TC14PE
Power Supply: Fractal Design Newton R3 600w Modular
SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 128GB

As for optical drives, I don't really see the necessity in it but I have one laying around. I'm buying it from dustinhome.no the price of these components I feel are very acceptable. Now I said I liked to think I know a thing or two about PCs but I'm far from an expert so please slap me with some advice about anything, building in general or what/if I should switch some components around.

welcome to OC3D,

what case is this all going into?
this is primarily a gaming rig?
i prefer samsung or crucial SSD drives. the OCZ are having a company issue and
if something were to happen, you might not have a SSD to replace an error SSD.
just saying..

what draws you to the FD newton? i kinda lean for the corair HX series semi
modulars (gold rated now)the lil HX650 is a dynamo.

It's all going into a Coolermaster HAF XB case.

I will be gaming and doing some game development, 3ds max, UDK, zbrush, photoshop, nothing too heavy.

I don't really have any specific reason to go for the Fractal PSU, it seemed like a quality PSU with a reasonable wattage and efficiency for it's price and my use.

I was unaware OCZ were going through troubles so I'll probably go for something different, could you suggest something similar in performance and price off the top of your head?

samsung 830/840 drives or crucial M4 drives. either, just get a great price.

getting the XB for portability?

if looking for those appz, might i suggest 2133 RAM. it'll ease the PS and 3DS
flow alot better. 1600 is mainstream, but i feel you will overclock and the extra
RAM speed will help in those areas.

Yes, I've had a Dell XPS 720 for ages now and I've gotten sick of the unwieldy size and weight of it.

I don't think the i5 supports ram past 1600 MHz, does that differ if I overclock? What consequences will I bump into if I use ram with "incorrect" frequencies?

Are there any 140mm intake fans you could suggest for the front?
I usually wear a g35 logitech headset so noise doesn't really bother me as long as it isn't really obnoxious. If I had to put a number on it I'd say something under 37 dB but with as much airflow as possible.

The i5 3570K really supports ram up to 2400MHz I would say considering the memory controller is so much better on the Ivy CPUs-unless you get a really bad chip that is. Not sure if I know what you mean by quote: "What consequences will I bump into if I use ram with "incorrect" frequencies?"

As for noisy intake fans, well I'm no expert in that area =/ I do know though that for me as a silence freak would go for either the Corsair AF140 or one of the new Noctua 140/150 fans.

As for SSD I'm with airdeano-go for The 840 PRO or a Crucial m4 (personally I'm leaning more towards the 840 PRO)

here in the states i use the BGears B-Blaster 140mm fans for my rads.
3.5mm/h2o, 103cfm, 1800rpm, 36DBa. they undervolt like-crazy. the 7volt under
volt is strong. close to akasa apache 140, but akasa click on undervolt. another
plus are ball bearing, not sleeve, hydralic... yam/yam. ball bearing and cheap $12.

Since I'm using the the phanteks cooler on which the ribs are fairly well spaced I'm assuming I won't need very high static pressure but just a load of air being pushed through there. Again I'm no expert. Is there any sort of fan which is widely regarded to have the best CFM to noise ratio, or is that even a thing?

Also for intake I just want a whole lot of air rushing in through the front and going straight across the motherboard and straight out the back of the case really fast.

Well, what I meant is basically that the cpu is listed to be compatible with "DRR3 -1333/1600" as can be seen here.

Well, I read here that the processor supports "DDR3-1333/1600" ram so I assumed that would be the only ram it would support, but that is incorrect? I won't have any problems if I use faster ram?

You won't have any problem, it will run just fine. But... I don't know how much positive difference in performance you will get going from 1600MHz to 2133-2400MHz and if it's worth the money.

I'm more worried about the ram dimensions as the phanteks cooler doesn't allow ram with big heatsinks, any suggestions for 2133Mhz ram with practical dimensions?

I think G.Skill has some pretty quick (2100MHz) dimms with low heatspreaders like the RipjawsZ and Ares

The shop I'm buying from doesn't have any g.skill ram and they do seem a bit pricey, I'm also skeptical about the height of the ripjaws which are 40mm. That paired with the fact that I don't often do very intensive work in 3d's max, at most I might import high poly meshes for baking or projecting maps.

I'm not sure about the performance increase, what kind of performance difference would I be looking at with 1600 Mhz versus 2133 Mhz?

IB only supports up to 1600MHz, you can overclock to higher, but technically speaking, it isn't supported, it's just possible.

Supported = certified. IB is only certified/guaranteed to work with 1600MHz. RAM

This is a pretty decent parts list. Not a rig, because you haven't told us about much else right now.

What color scheme are you going for?
Any modding you're going to do?
What are you watercooling?
Any plans for upgrading?

ADD MORE STUFF!
I'm interesting in checking out peoples rigs, and it frustrates me when they tell us very little of what they have planned :P

Anyway, why did you choose that Fractal PSU? Just, looks good, heard good reviews or something? Its a decent choice, but I would go with something with a little bit higher wattage for the future, and something a little more solid.

Also, what are you getting for mass storage?

Anyway, nice work so far. I wouldn't change a whole lot. Good rig for a starter.

ive got G.Skill 2133mhz (Ares) and my 3570k is quite happy running it in XMP. i've also got a mate who is running 16GB of Patriot 2133 on an AMD FX 8150. I will be switching to the lot that hes got because his runs at lower voltage than my G.Skill.

Both my G.Skill and his Patriot are considered to be low profile, simply because they dont have overgrown heat spreaders.

http://msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=9421 for the Patriot.

And i lurve my samsung 830 SSD

I'd recommend to get a Corsair Force GT or Samsung 840 Pro, NOT the standard 840 by any means.
Standard 840 has TLC memory which dies approximately 3-5 times faster compared to that of the 840 Pro's MLC chips...

Thats perfect for someone who wants 16GB divided by 4 slots. Personally, I wanted to play with a ram drive and 32GB of decently speeded memory. Corsair doesnt seem to make 8GB sticks in the speeds that I would want, in LP. Hence my persuit of Patriot in my next ram purchase.
