Build me a £400-500 gaming computer.

Imo the Phenom 9950 would be a better choice, cheaper to

Hopefully you mean the 955 and not the old AM2 chip

Yeah :L I really don't know much about amd cpu's

LOL, they are brilliant value for money most of the time, is why i have always got them!!!!

As for the build i would be looking to get something like this, the cpu should be able to hit 3.4Ghz with a 133Mhz FSB. Also the GPU is a much better one with the money saved on the CPU. I guess there is an option to save money by getting rid of the 120GB SSD as that makes the build go slightly over budget. Also you can pick and chose whatever case, it's personal preference at the end of the day. Finally a little bit of money could be saved on the motherboard i suppose, however that is the best motherboard for that socket and there will not be a better one any time soon.

They are roughly the same the same to be honest depending on what benchmark you use. Problem is coming across a Phenom II these days. They are quite rare and not as cheap as they should be for older gen. But yea a x4 Phenom II would work.

What about this : http://s1148.photobucket.com/albums/o576/ObscureParadox/?action=view&current=scan.jpg

7870 which is just a little better than a 570, also it has a higher Vram so that will help to future proof it more. I think it will be hard to beat a setup like this. TBH i don't know why people keep on putting 4100's in the build. Sure they overclock pretty well but they don't even compete with the Athlon ii's in single threaded performance, and considering you can get an Athlon II quad core for £50, surely that will make it a more logical choice for a gaming computer??

I think that CPU with that GPU will be a huge bottleneck

I have come up with this:

I dont know if that graphics card is any good for the price? I chose it because it has 2GB.

It's a good build but the card is not quite as good as a 570 or a 7850 and in a gaming PC that is more important.

That's why i think the Athlon chip would be better for you, clock for clock the Phenom chip is better but not by so much that you would really notice. You would also have a lower power consumption with the Athlon chip as it is made on the 32nm production line. With the improved memory controller on the llano cpu's you'd get a higher bandwidth from your ram which will help to improve CPU performance a bit too. That's why i think it would be much more sensible to go with the £50 Athlon chip. There is even a overclockable "K" version for an extra £20!!!

I can understand why you wanted a 2GB vRAM card, arguably that is a good amount to have these days. On Aria you can get the 7850 for that price which will out perform a 560ti, or the 570 as before.

Also I'd want a bigger power supply (600w is good for this build). I don't have a problem with OCZ power supplies although they have a bad reputation for reliability on these forums (but they are listed on AMDs recommended PSUs list).

Also if you want to overclock you'll need a better motherboard than the 760g chipset I think.

The FX 4100 will be aswell, the Athlon should be able to overclock to around 3.4-3.6Ghz which will put it up against a 5Ghz fx-4100 if you compare these two results : http://hwbot.org/sub...4100_11sec_56ms

http://hwbot.org/sub...631_10sec_955ms

Just my 2c.

The AMD x4 cpus all perform roughly the same to be honest although the Athlon cpus are so old now that they have dropped off the review charts and I've been only able to estimate a comparison.

To compare the Athlon X4 chip i've stated you need to really have a look at the llano CPU's as they are the same as the Athlon X4 chips for the FM1 socket, only that the Athlon chips have had their GPU's disabled. I also agree 100% that 2GB of Vram is what he should be looking at. 1GB is pushing it on a lot of games now and in games like Battlefield 3 it just isn't enough! I wouldn't touch an OCZ power supply with a barge pole either tbh. I have heard quite a few bad things about them.
