Honest question for you. What about the BB makes you not a fan? I ask because there seems to be a lot of misinformation going around, smear campaigns from other companies, etc. Chen is on the warpath and started a group called BB Fact Check that is targeting these people and calling them on their false claims. Although everyone has their reasons for the phones they choose, I am just curious as to what it is about BB that puts you off?Yeah, I'm not a massive fan of BB myself, but if it works for her then fair enough. Seems like more of an 'all-round' phone than the Moto G which, let's be honest, has a shit camera and no SD card slot.

Personally its down to bad build quality. Horrific even. I know of entire companies who got rid of BB products as they were fed up with them breaking. the z10 is nothing special as well. Its a step in the right direction (and looks nice) but its a bit dated from the start. I also find the OS to be a bit crap.

They just don't appeal to me that much with the OS and the specs. I get that Android apps run on the device but as Barnsley said, I myself prefer an OS like WP8.1 or even Android itself. I also seriously doubt that my sister would even want to get used to /another/ new OS.
To add to that, it's slightly underspecced for the price. Obviously the two Krait cores in the S4 Plus (Z10) are a bit quicker than the Cortex A7 ones in the Snapdragon 400 (Lumia 630 and Moto G), and my HTC 8x has that same SoC and it works perfectly fine under WP8.1, most Android devices these days (if not all) have quad cores SoCs meaning that apps and the OS itself are more likely to take advantage of more cores, rather than quicker ones.
But I've let her know about it and her response was "I'll see" so I don't think she's very much into it

People get to hung up on specs, and also going by what other people have said about them. It would be like tom doing a review based solely on what other people have said and reviewed about a product. Have you ever tried one? Build quality poor. the one thing the majority say is that the build quality is better than most of the phones out there? Guys have dropped their phones, me included and not a scratch. I don't get the OS comments either? QNX is probably the most powerful OS of any mobile phone with what it is capable of and most stable. It takes very little resources and power to run. This is why specs don't mean everything here. For an Android device to run it needs more power and ram for the phone to operate effectively. I get that a phone won't appeal to some people, I personally think the galaxy phones are too big and cheap looking, and apple, well you sneeze on one of those and the screen cracks. this is why I asked the question, what is it that puts you off. People make comments without ever having tried the phones and even given it a chance. In all honesty when I was replacing my older Bold Blackberry I seriously considered a Galaxy phone. I waited for the BB10 devices to come out and am glad I did. Going on a year and half and it still going strong. I personally can't look at screens like on the windows phones, reminds me too much of W8. But thats my thing. I like clean look, efficient os without bloatware (BB has none) and a productive tool. I don't play games on my phone so can't comment on that side of things.

Funny I've dropped my iphone enough times and its not damaged at all
. Its called a protective case (its not even a bulky one!) and screen protector. It also has no bloatware and has regular updates that improve performance. Oh and I have tried one. My co-worker had one and as I do quite a bit of work on mobile phones its pretty crucial I cover my bases when it comes to using an OS, even if its got a tiny percent of the market. I've only seen two, one that wasn't working properly As I said, its a step in the right direction but still not anything that great. Honestly, build quality is hardly even that great either. Its better then most Samsung android phones (not hard to be tbh) but anything made by Nokia, Apple and a couple of LG phones feel much nicer. The OS would have been revolutionary when smart phones were a new thing. Nowadays however it is not any thing fantastic.
The lack of popularity of blackberry stuff is not down to some "misinformation campaign". Its because they were crap when they were popular and only just now are making some OK products. I won't endorse a phone that is OK in most things but lacks several apps and is made by a company who're a bit behind the times and are struggling.
I'd imagine the build quality is "great" if you've only ever used blackberry.
Ok, which apps are lacking? Honest question because Im not a real big app guy. And when I talk about the OS, I talk about QNX. To say that "The OS would have been revolutionary when smart phones were a new thing" tells me you haven't read a thing about QNX and its capabilities. Feel of a phone, well you throw a protective case on it and they all pretty much feel the same then. Apple hasn't done anything revolutionary since they were released, they update the phone with a new number, minimal features and charge more. Most updates apple releases has to be followed with another very quickly to fix all the problems with the last release. And that battery life!
Yes, I will admit I am a bit of a fanboy of BB, but the arguments of BB that people use are mostly from the old OS not any of the new BB10 devices. One of the big problems is the delayed release of the new BB10 devices and most just got fed up and switched. Also phones tend to be whatever is poplular at the moment people will buy. All comes down to marketing, apple has that in the bag. when Hein was behind the wheel of BB he made some very poor decisions, now that Chen is behind the wheel, there has been some positive steps forward and the company is now back to turning a profit. Regardless of what most say, BB is still the number one phone of choice for those that require an unhackable and secure phone, which unfortunately isn't the average consumer but the business sector, and well, we know where the numbers are at.

Most of my experience prior to recently was with the old OS and others. I f**king hated it, as do most people.
Nothing is unhackable.
Hackers have tried, they can't hack the phone, and the BES10 system has no backdoor available so it can't be hacked. Yes the old OS was slow, sluggish, crashed often. The old OS was Java based not QNX, the new OS was a ground up rewrite which is why it took so long to release. Again, this is the argument again, people basing their experience with a phone from years ago. We don't do that with other phones or computer systems for that matter, yet we still do it with BB, which is the point I am trying to make and you proved it.

Thing is, people don't tolerate long delays in the phone market. Symbian died, despite belle and belle's Qt based apps being rather good. Meego/Maemo died because it took too long to develop. Windows Phone is struggling somewhat because people already got used to iOS and Android and its different logic makes people not want to migrate. Same will probably happen to BB, people already lost interest.
Also, people saying something can't be hacked will always be proved wrong, eventually.
