Which CPU for my budget rig?

It depends on the budget TBH, but either a 4100 if you only need a quad or a 6100 if the extra cores would benefit you.

1045t. reason is it is cheap and it's future proof because of its six cores. Its not the fastest but 6 cores is nice to have for future apps that may use it.

I can get the 1045 new cheaper than the fx-6100 and i will of course be overclocking perhaps to 3.6-3.8.

I wouldn't get a fx 4100 there's a few reviews done where a normal A8 llano can beat it, and now you can get a A8K,

If your on a budget get the i3 2120 and if you have the correct motherboard you could upgrade easily to ivy bridge when you have the funds to do so,

I3 2120 is a really nice cpu

If you could get the 1045T with 95w tdp that would be a nice choise and also a good overclocker. Have you checked out the FM1 3870k? run that igpu with a dedicated gpu for a nice fps boost.

You should also check out the Intel SB I5's and see if any of those meats your budget.

I wouldnt get an i3 because they are only dual core chips and some games use more now so it isnt very future proof

Phenom II X6 but maybe it's best to wait around for the new stuff coming soon. Ivy Bridge and Trinity aren't far off now! I can't wait that long so I'm getting a Llano 3870k+6670 to have a play with.

Off the top of my head - Left 4 dead series, GTA IV, BFBC2, Shogun 2, BF3, Dragon age series, supreme commander, mass effect series.

Personally I'd take the 1045 and cherry pick the best 4 cores to OC on, but a 2500k would be better if you could make it to £160...

6 cores can sometimes make a difference, but 4 cores makes a big difference especially if you are running other things in the background.
