BT Broadband to Offer 20Mbps for Free

Admittly, I haven't read their website but just got feedback from friends/family on Virgins service. Although, I do believe traffic shaping of any kind is wrong and the main reason Virgin has such a webpage is because they have too many customers for the network setup they have.

You should get what you pay for.

Pretty much every ISP has a throttling service, you would have to be pretty much abusing the system for it to start throttling your service. (well maybe not so much on the really low end packages)

It's just to stop the whole network slowing up for others.

I've been with a few ISP's but I do love Virgin Media. Other than the net going down every once and a while (read about 2-3 times a year for hours) it's great.

If you go for their new fastest package then there will be no restrictions whatsoever. (Not good IMO as it can be abused but there we go...)

Idnet do not throttle at all :)

But i think the main problem with virgin is that their services are over stretched as in too many customers on one pipline

Idnet had that problem once when BT took too long to install a new one - pings went through the roof and downloads were sloowww

Well, maybe that's possible around other areas but here in Berkshire it's fine. 20Meg download day in day out.

Henley has serious issues with Virgin. You can't download more than like 500MB without getting throttled to 54kb. But as always companies have their good and bad areas.

VM is fine, just get a NAS like I have done and setup the downloads to complete overnight.

Will look into this BT 20mb for work, we're on their "8mb" *cough* 6mb on a good day package. My work is 2 miles from my house and we can't get VM fibre :(

We throttle people who exceed 300mb in a rolling hour on ADSL, it's higher on cable. Either way you shouldnt be capped down to that level, 20mb was always capped to 5mb, adsl was capped to 512. There's been some changes recently so it might be worth calling them to find out.

Alternatively PM me your virgin login name and i'll take a look
