"Brand new" ray tracing hardware is coming to AMD RDNA 4 GPUs

You keep posting that everywhere but I really don't see how you can believe that considering there are also opposite rumors floating around.

No sense in believing rumors until few days before launch, which is generally when we learn the truth.

It was AMD themselves that said it apparently. So it was more news at the time rather than a rumour.

The 7900XTX is basically a mid range card compared to the 4090 and what AMD could have released.

It was Scott Henklemen? (sic) who said categorically that AMD were not going to make $2000 GPUs.

So apparently the next gen are going to top out around the same ball park. However Dice could be way off because -

1. AMD have not even really tried to do ray tracing hardware in any serious manner and
2. We are talking about mid range next gen. Which will likely be as fast if not faster than the 7900XTX.

Pair that with any sort of meaningful ray tracing and you have a win.

My feelings I think are clear enough I expect an improvement but nvidia will still be ahead in dxr however when it's good enough what more you really need, like having a super car in the UK unless on a track an easy way to get a ticket or worse still banned.

Really depends on the ai they are adding and it's ability but I know this much it's the same kind as pssr on ps5 pro cause sony and amd have been working closely for a while now and sharing.

Amd are actually doing okay in ai they can't make mi300x cards fast enough but obviously nvidia are the major milkers where amd have been behind is the software side they were at least smart enough to invest r&d over the years into areas that would see growth.

When your almost bankrupt and competing with companies far more able to invest with the market share I'd say they have done extremely well. Of course instant gratification world but it's changing.

The harder part is if nvidia is still able to innovate once amd have fully caught up in say a decade then I expect your all feel very differently.

Cause I'm sure Intel does right now cause that laptop market they rely on hugely is going to vanish.

See its just reality and of course while good news for amd it's dire for Intel can't actually say I'd be happy for anything bad to happen to any of them it's people's jobs and lives in long standing companies.

But hey if voodoo came back how many here would buy one or a bfg card right.

AI? Meh. Ray Tracing, a good thing but £400 worth? Er... No. Games still look like cartoons. Very well executed cartoons; but nevermind the Ray Tracing; you can still tell it is a cartoon and not reality. Some plantpot will pay silly money, 100% plus cost for minus 10% benefit. There is a point beyond which I'm just jeering and pointing at them.
