Bootin up problem

Sometimes when i reboot it stops on the Windows XP screen and the little blue bars just stop. All i have to do is hit the restart button and then select last known good configuration and it boots up fine, but why does it do that?

Open up Windows Explorer, expand My Computer, right click on local disk C:, click properties, select the tools tab and then click check now. check the Automatically fix file system errors and then click start. You will probably have to let it restart your computer and it will check it during the next boot. Good Luck.

Could be that your memory isn't being cleared properly on shutdown. Therefore casuing conflicts on boot. Only remedy for that would be when you restart use the shut down option, turn the power off for a few seconds and then turn it back on.

i get a similar problem in server 2003, whr the blue(grey) bars keep moving, but nothing happens. a simple reboot and the next time it will load fine. it does this 30/40% of the time.

Asked a m8 of mine about this 50 years ago and his comment was "it`s doing u`r network stuff - sometimes a long pause, sometimes it`ll stop of it gets an issue." don`t know how much I agree with that these days.

Isn`t there a way u can set windo$e to tell u what it`s doing behind that flash screen during boot - I`m sure there is.

this is windows, not linux :)

Sounds to me like something in the boot process is stopping Windows from continuing with the boot.

Try removing some USB peripherals and trying again. Or it could even be your anti-virus or other security software causing it. Done any AV updates recently that could have caused it?

Try A-Squared Hijackfree and check the items in the start-up list to see if it's anything in there. It gives a more indepth list of stat-up items and processes than the bog standard Windows affair.

That would annoy the hell out of me...30 - 40% of the time,

With regards to the problem that you Tyler are having, it could be a number of things. Here are a few things to check:

*Is your copy of Windows legit?

*What SP are you running - 1 or 2

*Is this a slipstreamed disk or disk made for unattended install?

*Are you running the latest bios version for your motherboard?

*When you get into Windows, have you checked the event viewer? (Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer, and look for events that have a Red X for the last time you started the computer and it failed to start.. Double click the event(s) to see what failed to start. Follow the instructions in the window, which contains a link to Microsoft Support for further help.) It could be a hardware conflict or driver error that Windows doesn't like.

*Does it allow you to enter safe mode?

sometimes something to do with your DNS settings, have a check with them. had the exact same problem today when a sbs 2003 server's dhcp was dishing out the wrong dns to the clients.

I heard that, how many people have sat infront of a windo$e pc they`ve been told is failing to do something and u simply explete the cry "wtf are u actually stuck doing?!".
