Boot failure on Rampage iv extreme

Hi, I have recently added a second ssd with the intention of running raid0 but have had nothing but problems. I bought intel 330 120gb to go with my kingston hyper x 120gb because the guy at overclockers in Stoke said I should get the same sandforce controller. My bios 2105 shows all my drives after I go into the bios and eveything runs fine. However, every time I shut down & restart only the two SSD's show up in windows 7 64bit when it does decide to boot. Sometimes it will not even boot until I go into the bios again. I have all the up to date drivers for all of my hardware. I have read some articles where there is a problem on the X79 chipset with intel drivers but do not fully understand what I need to do? Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated please. My set up is as follows
Rampage iv extreme, I7 3820, GTX590 x 2, Kingston hyper x 120gb ssd, Intel 330 120gb ssd, 1tb W/D hdd 300gb seagate hdd 16gb corsair vengeance ram 1600Mhz CPU & GPU's are watercooled with alphacool blocks 1 x 360 rad & 1 x 420 rad, dual bay res & 2 x D5 pumps. 1 x blu ray & 1 x DVD burner. Have you actually gone through with the RAID? I'm not sure about this, but the firmware of the two drives are different, with Intel working alongside Sandforce to tailor the firmware to their liking. If the drive's being treated as one, like it does in RAID0, I can believe that you're having issues.

Hi, I have not done the raid0 yet, need to get all my drives recognised in windows. I have them running in ACHI. Thanks for replying and anymore will be much appreciated. Glen

Thats why then............. You need to install windows on the two drives (raid) and see how it is then.

Hi Tom, I already have windows installed on my original Kingston ssd. Do you mean do a new install after I create the raid0? Thanks Glen

Yes mate you need to do a fresh install across the two drives in raid

Will it work, Tom? The two different drives together? I thought Intel's jiggery pokery with Sandforce would have implications?

I would have said matching drives if he asked before hand, but the best thing he can do now is get windows on the raid0 array and see how he gets on.

OCUK should have sold him the same drive not just what they had :/

Hmm. Well, hope it all works for you.

Just another thing - RAID0, in my experience, doesn't really bring much to the table. You have two extremely fast drives which are near the top of the performance tables already, do you really have a need to RAID0 them? I don't know if it's the onboard RAID controller on my 'GD65, but I've not seen any performance improvements.

Hi, i do not have to do a raid0 my main concern right now is getting all of my drives HDD, SSD & optical drives recognised in windows & not to keep getting boot failures every time i shut down & restart? Thanks Glen

why are we talking about raid if you dont want raid 0?

just have the SSD's in and do windows

then put everything not in raid on a different controller. If you dont know what Im talking about when I say different controller, sell your current SSD's and buy one big one.

Hi, I do want to run raid0, that is why i intially bought the intel ssd. Before I do raid them I wanted to make sure everything will be recognised in windows? When I get home I will do as you initially said and do a new install. if that does not work I will get a second Kingston and then hopefully these will work together? I am going to transfer all my current set up to the caselabs case I assembled yesterday at the same time. Thanks Glen

Hi Guys, I have solved (I think) the problem I had with windows not recognizing my HDD's & Optical drives, it was (again I think) a problem with the Intel drivers & X79 chipset. I switched bios's and installed version 3010 to the other chip then I have reinstalled all drivers & all seems well, have restarted twice without any issues. I will set up the raid0 tomorrow & hopefully all will be well? Thanks guys for all the input. Glen
