Books

If you're into thrillers one I'd recommend is "The Day after Tomorrow" - it's nothing to do with the film btw.

I remember starting that one day at about 2pm or so and finishing it around 4am.

I'm subscribed to this thread :) Some of the suggestions look really good so I'm gonna check them out when I get time/money.

I would post some recommendations, but I'm into sci-fi, frowned upon by the general literary community hehe.

If you're into sci-fi, I'll ask my brother for you ;) He's really into it too, we regularly recieve an amazon.co.uk package. The mailman already recognizes our address when he's looking on his delivery list, despite covering a very large area on his own xD

I can heartily recommend :

1) Anything by Tom Clancy, upto Sum of all Fears. After that he got a bit self-indulgent and rubbish. Political thrillers at their finest.

2) Anything by Tolkein. Yes anything. Fantasy writing gets no better. Yes I know that as a Tolkein-loving PC nerd I probably wont get a girlfriend. Which is lucky because I'm married :)

3) Any of the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. Staggeringly brilliant set of detective novels in a very 'hard-boiled/noir' style.

4) Any of Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide series. I'm just a walking stereotype.

Tom Clancy darn what's that book called again..

Ah, now I know: without remorse.

***SPOILERS***

There is a point in that, midway through that I was so disgusted Clancy had chosen to take the plot the way he did, that I had to stop reading it for a week to let my disbelief subside. I was stunned.

***END SPOILERS***

VB

His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.

Read these about 3 - 4 years ago and seriously couldn't put them down. Then they went and made a bloody film (The Golden Compass) which doesn't really do it justice... It's too watered down.

VB: yes the plot was a bit ... disgusting on some points. I did like the whole writing style and tension between persons etc. a lot though. Couldn't sleep until I finished it xD

Another good clancy... The bear and the dragon. I think.

And yes of course the good old Hitchhikers guide :D Currently rereading the ultimate version (the trilogy with 6 books, that one)
