Hi everyone i bought a laptop last week and its running vista home basic operating system. It keeps going to the blue screen of death every few days and shuts itself off, but when it comes back on its fine.

This is my first experience with vista and so far i think its crap. Has anyone got any suggestions on why its doing this?

Thanks in advance guys.

Did you buy it new? if so I suggest you return it or have it fixed. BSOD usually means a hardware problem or some driver is not working well with the hardware. You can also try the recovery disks sometimes recovering the PC to the factory specs eliminates this problem. In my opinion Vista is one of the worst OSs available. If you really need Windows go with Xp at least it flaws are visible. I'm currently running on ubuntu, and its really great for everything. I do have a dual boot with Xp, but I only use it on limited work (Mainly VS.Net).

i bought it new, its a v5535 siemens. It has done it both plugged in and on battery but every time i turn it on its saying that my sis tray has stopped working.

Ive tried scanning my driver disk to try an re-install the driver but i dont have it on the driver disk. The settings are all still from the factory as i only mess around with desktops. I have only ever run XP64 on my computers before so vista is a new to me.

Any suggetions?

Im jus really puzzled

:(

blue screens do not always mean its hardware

1)Update Your System

2)Update antivirus and run a scan

3)After a crash check in the event log or take down the stop code eg

STOP: 0x000000EB (0x00000032, 0x00002345, 0xABCDEF00, 0x00000000)

This can give indication of what is causing the issue

4)What were you doing before it crashed (eg were you moving the laptop)

most blue screens are to do with software not hardware
