while removing the heatsink to put my waterblock on, instead of the usual slow process of slowly wobbling it off, somewhere along the line the IHS popped off and was stuck to the bottom of the bloody heatsink...

Cleaned it all up and put new TIM on.. but should i be worried? never had an IHS pop off before that i didn't want off...

little worried... it's all leak testing at the minute and haven't started her up yet but yeah.. not so keen on the idea of that happening...

Jeez, that's usually something u spend an age being careful to pop-off.

The matter that it came off with the hs must lend to the thermal goo between the 2 being pretty tough. Would probably have come off more smoothly if the card was warmed up b4 hand.

Worried ? I don`t think I would be, on the contrary, I`d probably use it to my advantage. If there is now a significant gap between ur block and the gpu, perhaps put a solid copper strip between the 2, compounding between each ?

Dunno if I'm making too light-hearted a matter of it, but afaic, although it came off, aslong as it came off without damaging anything in the process, I'd think it fine. Possibly a bonus.

yeah, thats a good point although i resolved it (after recovering from heart attack) by tim'ing it and putting it back as i don't have copper for it, and i imagine to get a piece so it's exactly the same thickness would be fairly difficult :S and costly :S

it's a bloody thick ihs i must say! i didn't think they were that thick maybe 2 or 3mm?

i guess i'll see when i perform the switch on tonight :S

it was VERY stuck to the heatsink, took some effort to get it to come off lol, FAR too much thermal compound used by evga..

speaking of EVGA, they seem fairly 'modder friendly' dya think they'd accept an rma if it turned out it was buggered? lol

ooh if that was me I'd probably be returning/selling my full-cover block right now and looking for a GPU block and Memory combo by someone like Swiftech so I could take advantage of some direct core to block lovin'

hrm, tempting.. but a little too late lol, is the maze 4 worthy? i've got one lying about lol.

loop is all setup now tbh, so if it works yey if not. eek lol

i can't believe how easily it just popped the bloody thing off i've heard how hard they are to get off i've yanked one off an old card, stupid bloody overdone TIM

scary thing is there are LOADS of tiny resisters (well i think they're resisters) around the core, so if you DID try to cut an IHS off you'd have a tough time with a blade, i imagine they are very very easy to nip and remove lol

haha not as much as that split second after i looked at the core and bottom of the heatsink and seeing the IHS in the opposite place that it was meant to be.. i swear.. heart attack in the making that was
