BioShock is Game of the Year for 2007

BEST DRIVING GAME

DiRT (Codemasters/ Codemasters)

I do not agree with this AT ALL! It's more arcady than Need for Speed, and I reckon the only reason it won is because Colin McRea's name is on the cover...

How can they give the award to DiRT over Forza 2?!?!?! Seriously Forza is the best driving game to date (until GT5 comes out, i assume)

Got both and DiRT is imo a far superior game for driving experience. Forza 2 has the cool extra's, but tbh I've spent more time painting my car than actually wanting to race it

DiRT is one of those point the car in the right direction and press forward kind of games...at home in the lobby of megabowl...

As a driving game fanatic (sega rally, gt1 and onward and so forth) the realism of DiRT is on par with NFS, with regard to real world handling and having intricate control of the vehicle.

Maybe for someone who isn't big on their driving games it may have more appeal, but I bought it thinking it would be amazing only to trade it back in the following day.

Trust this man for his car is sideways in this here pic :p

But in all seriousness who the hell compiles these lists?

how is the orange box breakthrough technology? they've added nothing 'breakthrough' in that release?!

surely something like crysis would come under that? with all the new effects its using?

Thats a point when is source moving to directx10?

And on another point when dx10 was being 'sold' to us, they said it was supposed to be more efficient than dx9 because of the way it used parts of the chip, now.. forgive me if i'm wrong but... hasn't dx10 thus far been more demanding?

Spot on! Nothing in the Orange box is anything but a mod of the source engine which has been around now for how many years?!

Seriously, where do these lists come from?

But it's not exactly breakthrough when it was done by Prey last year. Fair enough you couldn't move the Portals yourself but it's the whole idea of the Portals that is supposedly breaktrhough.

I do agree, fun - but not breakthrough.

Completely different

The breakthrough isn't the concept of portals, thats been around forever, way before prey. The breakthrough is the ability to position them at will - thats some seriously complex sh|t right there from the point of view of a game programmer

Haha that's exactly the discussion I'm having with my housemate right now but you can't seriously call one tweak in an age old engine with an idea which isn't new a 'breakthrough technology'. It just isn't. I'd love to see their definition of 'technology'.

This is coming from a programming student :p

What would you nominate as more original and progressive?

They've overcome a difficulty that has existed for a while regardless of engines and game genre and thats why they've won.

Pretty sure the people who decide know what theyr'e on about lol

And good luck with the programming I guess

Politics.

It`s difficult to not be too compaicent.

I wasn`t personally impressed with Portal`s `breakthrough` tbh.

Nothing really has jumped out at me as an outstanding game for a long long time. Industry has been either moving slow or showing too much same-ole same-ole.

Portal is an example of a unique (ish) idea being presented in an interesting way... personally think that game deserves all the awards it can get.

Bioshock is a truly fantastic game and is well deserving of this award. I also think that on PC, DiRT is by far the best driving game for the platform but Forza 2 is far better overall, however I don't own a 360 so cant play it :(

Meh, I haven`t played a game that`s made me atleast think "WOW!" for a whole while.

Sometimes I think "that`s nice".

Maybe give up games for a year and come back refreshed ? It`s been 24 years now, time for a break ?
