Last night i purcahsed a new system, but have encounted a problem to which the motherboard supports the CPU but only with a BIOS update to start with, i have purchase an Asus M4A79-T Deluxe MB along with the AM3 905e processor. How would i go about getting an updated bios chip or get the system running to allow the bios update without having to buy a new Processor.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanx Landerin

would your current chip go in it?

Looking round the internet it would appear that you cant do it blind. The cpu must be supported by the bios.

you need bios version 1004

Apparently asus will send you a new bios chip - they are removable, and are fairly easy to do. That or see if you can rma it.

4 ways

1) as freak says contact Asus they will send a new bios chip out (takes upto 4 weeks)

2) take to local shop pay a £10 and have it updated for you.

3) Borrow a mates chip and do it.

4) By a cheap ass low end 2nd hand chip and update it.

mayhem's 3rd option is the best I would say. No cost and quick. I'm sure someone will have a CPU to borrow for 15 minutes?

i know loads of cheap ass's lol .. so i know loads with them lol

not saying your a cheap ass btw ...

ops, it was actually the X4 proccessor, but it was still same problem, but luckly the MB came with a bios which allowed it to be installed without any problems.
