bios update

i know im gonna sound like a retard but how do i update my bios on my mobo?

What motherboard do you have?

You have a number of different ways, you can update it through a USB pendrive and you can do it through Windows (least safe!)

Those are the only two that I can think of at the moment, please can you add in what I have missed out guys.

You can do it by floppy as well on some boards, although USB is the best way

i have an evga 680i, so how do i do it from a usb drive? and should i back up my hard drive?

You could back up your hard drive, though I don't think it'll make much difference if the update goes wrong because your board will be dead.

I used the Windows app. to flash my BIOS and it worked, so maybe that is something to consider?

alrite i flashed it successfully (so happy), however this bios doesnt support sli memory when more than 2 sticks are installed so i gotta find a different one. thnx for the help though.
