Bios question

A friend just purchased a i7 8700k to put into my Asus z170 i "gaming" motherboard, it's running Bios version .2002 am I going to need to update this or will it be ok to just install and run, thanks.

would appreciate any advice.

It won't work. Don't install it you'll ruin either the CPU or the board. They are not going to work together.

You need a Z370 board for the 8th gen CPUs.

While the socket is the same, Z170 is not designed to work with an Intel i7 8700K, no matter what official BIOS you use.

Your best bet is to see how much you can get for your Z170 motherboard and get a new 300-series Intel board.

Sorry fella, the best you can do on Z170 is Skylake or Kaby Lake, even with an up-to-date bios.
