best dvd burner

Plextor every time for me.

Quality product, and the 2 yr warranty is excellent.

I jammed the tray in my previous drive. Don't know if it was my fault but I emailed Plextor and had a DHL number within the hour. It was collected the same day and 48 hours later I had a brand new drive back from Belgium. That's what I call service. :)

I wish you hadn't said that - when my plextor stopped working i took it out and smashed it on the floor because i was sooo annoyed with it.

I needed to burn a custom Windows CD

I'm very very happy with my NEC, and for playing DVD's there wisper quiet. Burns DVD's fine, 3520A I think I have, however ther may be a newer even better one out now.

I had a Plextor in my old pc, which was fine, but slow.. Who cares when you can just get a Nec and be done with it tho.

I use a Lite-On at home an NEC at work (which I ordered). I would have to say I have have trouble with the Lite-On - it's very picky about the media you use. Having said that, there is an excellent community for Lite-On H/W, and some great tools exist to modify the firmware. I have flashed my drive to a modified version and it works far better than it ever used to - much better burns.

As for the NEC, I do like it because it's reliable and it always seems to burn well, but the tools available aren't as good and harder to use.

If I was to choose a new drive now, I would check the Lite-On community to see how good the burns are these days (my drive is a year old), and if still dodgy then I'd go for an NEC.

Like a few others I have the nec 3520a and have had no problems whatsoever with it. I think Scan have it for less than £30.

3520a here too. Nice burner. I did have a Pioneer A05 which was nice, but I think I wore it out. Oops.

Always liked Plextor for CD Burners.
